Driving Offences

Toyota Supra at 21? O_o

A friend of mine has a Supra at 21, its a non turbo though.
I know another lad who insured an older shape Supra Turbo at 21 though.

If he needs the car for his work he can use that angle and probably get 6 points and a big fine.

If he can show that he needs to drive otherwise he will lose his income then he could avoid the ban. Maybe if his boss will go to court and stated your brother will lose his job or have to have an unpaid break of employment for the duration of his ban as he can't work that would swing it.

My brother tried that after getting caught for 98 in a 60 (dual carriageway). He got 12 months ban, its luck of the draw on the day.

Loads of places will insure a supra twin turbo at 21, not too expensive either.

The OP's brother is going to unfortunately be hammered for this, the combo isnt going to look good to a court :(

Get him off the road. He's a danger to himself and others. Thanks to him, younger drivers like myself have to put up with high Insurance costs. Muppet  .

his regional manager has offered to go to court for him and put in a good word to explain that they dont want to loose him, so hopefully that will help!

Memphis dude, think about it, 120 on the A1 in a supra TT is nothing, that car will accelerate up and beyond that, and slow down to legal speeds within a very short amount of time. Its not the same as doing it in a slower car which takes longer to get there.

The bald tyre thing is only going to have been an issue if it were raining, there is no denying that he is going to be in serious trouble though :)

Unfortunately the odds are stacked against him:

2 balding tyres
120mph
Fast car
21
3 points

I would expect a ban and a fine of some sort. Even if he does get off somehow I would imagine he is going to find his insurance going up a fair bit. :(

Maybe Nick Freeman is his solicitor?

no!! does he really need one?? its not like he is going to plead not guilty to it, when he was pulled over, he just said sorry, yeah you caught me, it was my own fault and held his hands up to it??

Surely if driving was soo important to him and such a big part of his job why is he on his mums insurance? surely if its such a big part of his working life he would drive it the most..

He may want to watch out for that in court as he could be classed as being uninsured if he hasn't informed his insurance company correctly.

The court will know he is just a named driver and if he mentions he needs his car fr work I supose they could contact his insurance company to ensure that his policy is valid and maybe do him for being uninsured (6 points + fine)

Also if he is using the car for work and has only got social or social and commuting cover then his policy will also technicaly be void.

We had a mail from our legal section at work saying that even if we were driving site to site (4 miles) we need to have advised our insurance company as technically we will not be covered!)

He needs to be very careful he doesn't end up being done for no insurance as technically being a named driver than main to ensure cheaper insurance and if he is not insured for buisness (I doubt as hasn't his own policy) driving he hasn't valid insurance

Also has he declared his mods :P

Sounds in all sorts of trouble I'm afraid!! 50mph over the limit, 2 bald tyres 21 with 3 points already, and high possibility of insurance fraud type stuff. Certainly wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

It did for someone on this forum IIRC, Lopez maybe? Not sure if it was 120 in a 70 though:eek:
104 in a 70.

I got my head of HR to write a letter explaining that I lived in a rural area (which is true) and that without a car I would be unable to get to work in time (which was also true)

I dressed smartly, was extremely solemn and humble in court, and apologised profusely.

I had no legal representation.

Unfortunately for your brother 120mph is well over the guidelines issued to magistrates when they are asked to consider a ban. They will also take a very dim view of the tyre situation, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get over 6 points and a very hefty fine at best, or failing that a 3 - 12 month ban.

It all depends on the magistrates on the day and the way you conduct yourself in court. The cocksure gimp who paraded into the courtroom like Little Lord Fauntelroy just before my case was heard got a very length ban for a speed lower than mine.

My Uncle loves it when he gets people like this up in front of him, really makes his day :D. Loves wiping the smile off their faces, must be quite satisfying. Doesnt deal with traffic offences though mostly divorce related stuff.

When I was 17 I read an article in Performance Bikes called "Breaking The Law" - it detailed what you could and could not expect to get in the way of fines/bans and so on.

It said something like "feel free to ******** your way out of trouble or talk the talk with the coppers, but don't even think about acting up in court. They'll see right through you."

And they were pretty much right.
