Driving questions

So naive then. It really isn't going to make them think that, because I guarantee you that 99% of the time they will be jumping the red light because a) shaving a few seconds off their journey is more important than stopping at a red light, and b) they don't give a ****

Because your OP indicates that you believe you are responsible for policing the road and teaching other drivers a lesson.

So, how about if you were going say 50mph and they overtook at 60 (in an NSL)?

If he indicated and moved over right in front of me, I don't care if he was driving at 100. I didn't have to brake and good luck to him, if he wants to take a gamble with a fine and points.

But by your own admission your using your horn incorrectly and risking a fine and points. But that's okay and the others isn't?

Don't forget the incorrect use of flashing main beams and hazards, those rules of the road are obviously ok to break.

Have you even got a driving license?

I’m afraid you come across as rather ignorant, arrogant and somewhat naive.

On the rare occasions where I have wanted to use my horn, I typically am more focussed on not crashing. The other day someone pulled out on me and I stopped within inches of them with the ABS cutting in all the way to the stop. The driver held their hand up and drove away whilst I sat there in shock cursing at not being able to find the horn in time. lol
If you are having to use the horn that much, you are not accounting for the fact other drivers are generally often of a poor standard and you are not making allowances for that. If you keep driving in a "I'm in the right" kind of way just standing your ground and ploughing along out of stubbornness, you will have an accident in time.

You definitely come across as a passive aggressive driver.

I'd suggest less use of the horn.

Nothing passive about using the horn. It's a big advertisement to those around you that there is a donkey driving a car.

Probably worth remind the OP (if he isn't 12):

"The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident."

Evening all.
I have some questions related to everyday driving. I am more interested to know what you do different than me or what you would do. These are all unofficial and I just wanted to sync my behaviour with what you all do.

1. Car ahead is driving slowly ( residential 2 way road ) > I sound horn quickly twice. If driver still does not increase speed, I will drive onto the other side of the road and overtake him by coming back to the correct side in front of him.

2. Drivers who go straight on a left only lane > 1 long horn

3. Drivers who cuts up everyone in a queue at a traffic light by driving down the wrong side > 1 horn

4. On a 3 lane dual carriageway, if I am on the right lane, and I am driving at the speed limit, if someone flashes me > Ignore and continue. On a motorway, if I do happen to find myself on the right lane, I will try to move to the middle lane as soon as it is safe to do so.

5. In a roundabout, if the car next to me is partially driving in my lane or about to drive in to me > 1 long horn

6. At a mini roundabout, if a car does not wait at the giveway line or drives in while I am going round > 1 long horn

7. Meet and greet situation in a residential road where it is a two-way road and cars are parked on both sides > If I am near the end of the road, I will reverse. If I am in the middle of the road or towards the front section of the road, I refuse to reverse all the way down the road , tell the other guy to reverse and switch off my engine.

8. If someone is driving at night with no headlights, use full beam and a long and loud horn

9. If someone is driving without headlights on a motorway, get in front of them and flash hazards a few times.

10. If on a motorway, there is traffic on the left and slow traffic in the middle lane but no one is in the right lane, and I move to the right lane and floor it. One of the daydreamers in the middle lane sees me and then comes behind me on the right lane and flashes me to move out of the way > Ignore him and keep going until I have gone past the slow traffic in the middle lane and can go back to the middle lane.

11. On a motorway, if someone comes in front of me at a car's length without indicating > 1 quick horn

12. On a dual carriageway, if someone comes in front regardless of distance > 1 horn

13. Anyone who jumps a red light > 1long horn

what i would do ?
re take my driving test again if i am doing all of those things ! lol

if some one is driving without lights on, theres no need to to use full beam and blind them, just a flash will do with your lights

You appear to be a horny driver.

How long ago did you pass? I'd follow the advice of other fellow OCUK members, time to take/retake test.
As above. The excerpt I've quoted from your OP suggests you may be open-minded. You've found out nobody behaves this way, so copy everyone here.

And also investigate some additional training/assessment. IAM maybe? At least with bikes it's easy enough to get an assessment ride.

As a secondary, if you commute to work they may subsidise some driving safety related tuition in order to try and keep their workforce alive. I've had this at a couple of places, generally where they do other high risk stuff like operate oil rigs.

OP needs to watch a bit of Ogmios.

That’s hilarious, why haven’t I seen that before.

My rules are as follows:

1: assume everyone else is an idiot and keep at maximum distance at all times.

2: carry on with my life.

I can’t believe anyone would consider overtaking on residential streets.

I can’t think of many streets that have enough of hazard free stretch for enough time to overtake anyone safely and while keeping within the posted speed limit without the other car doing sub 10mph. Nuts.

Is the OP a regular contributor to the U.K. dashcams YouTube channel by any chance?

Spend more time learning how to park and less time correcting others when you struggle with the fundamentals yourself.

I bet you have 14 in car cameras too.

While it is too much use of the horn, what is the accepted way to tell someone they've forgotten their lights are off? Flashing them (wahey) can be a bit like staring into the sun so I wonder if it's really the best way (although not sure the horn would work either).

Op wouldn't last a lorry driver. Would burst a blood vessel in 5 minutes. Best just letting it fly over your head, ignoring it and worry about your own safety. Those kind of people are just an accident waiting to happen.

Driving is one of the most undertrained things on the planet. (Both professional and private). I have seen a lot of madness. Cars coming down the wrong way of the motorway, reversing back down exit ramps. Pulling out from hard shoulder into 70+mph traffic at 5mph.
