Driving test failure myth?

If you cannot tackle roundabouts you are a) as bad as 60% of drivers on the road and b) not ready for your license.

On the bright side I'm sure you'll get it right next time.

Just as I was beginning to think you might actually be alright Maccy...

Besides I think you started it with you post saying he was banned! You're horrible. :(

You will never think I'm alright, accept it :p

I didn't mock OP at all, merely said that he was on holiday and when he would be back.

I found I had to exaggerate my mirror checks (actually visibly move your head around) else they can't see you checking them.

I was told to do this with my test, so they can see you are doing it, its even more important when doing a bike test, (which I did after) as the only way they can tell is by you turning your head, you feel stupid doing it but I passed first time so it must have worked!

I passed first time with 4 minors, 2 of which were for mirror checks. My instructor always used to tell me off for it, apparently mastering the ability to move your eyes independent of your head isn't one you should use for your driving test!

I also got one for being too close to the kerb when parallel parking, which I really take offence to! It was perfect, could have got at least a fag packet between tyre and kerb!

EDIT: Don't know how true this is, but I was told after the event that I had one of the toughest testers of that centre, and I can attest to the fact that he was a miserable old git, shunning any attempt at conversation so I could relax!

Take your instructor with you in the back seat. Although it is legal, examiners don't like it as it is an experienced set of eyes watching over them. Less likely to fail you for nothing when they know you could put a complaint in.

The opposite, they're more likely to mark harsher as its a sign your not confident. Although the person in question did take 10 attempts to pass and even now admits they can't see road signs >.>

I remember in my test the examiner moved the seat right back effectively blocking my view at junctions. A more cockier me would have told him to get in the back seat if he was gonna sit that far back.

I've often wondered if it's true, you have the choice of 4 or 5 different centers here tho most go to Larne since its fairly easy traffic wise, cheaper and the shortest waiting list. They might adjust how they classify a full glance compared to a half glance for example but I highly doubt there is a quota. If hey didn't want people on the road they would be better going after the old foggies that think the accelerator is wired to a bomb or something and re testing them.

I failed for a very similar (and annoying) fault. There's a roundabout near my home at a motorway junction. The third exit is just after 'straight on', so it should be the right lane. My instructor told me that because there's traffic lights half way round (and out of sight) it's better to use the left lane - if the lights are on red and there's a queue it's nigh-on-impossible to change lanes. Notably, this is what pretty much everyone does. So... what did I do on my test? Left lane. Failed.

My fault. I should have realised that my instructor was giving me a tip for using the road after I pass. When on my test I should have followed the highway code. Won't be making that mistake next time.

We could extend that example further - "Yes I know I shouldn't have hit that small child, I realise it now".
"OK sir, I'm pleased to tell you that you've passed".

I messed up my lanes on a roundabout on my test (it was literally the last turning before being back at the test centre) but because I'd signalled properly and checked my mirrors the instructor deemed I hadn't done anything dangerous and I got away with a minor.

A65 to A590, what's the right course if you want to be in the right hand lane on the A590?

I've seen cars go left lane then filter back to right lane or right lane on approach, then maintain lane on to A590.

I do the latter, is that right?

Nope, straight line it. Or both lanes, sideways.

(I'd say that neither lane is 'wrong' and would probably call it depending on traffic. Most people won't care/notice as long as you do it quickly, safely and considerately.)

So you think if you went in the right lane you would have still failed?

People that go in the wrong lane on roundabouts or cut across lanes during the roundabout are the most annoying drivers on the roads so it should be a major imo. 4th exit? I mean come on, if that doesn't warrant the right lane I don't know what does.

I LOL'd
