driving test

He passed my mate, they pass anyone now adays.

I gave my mate this advice:

1 Dont' be drunk
2. check mirrors for everything.
3. Ignore all girls how ever fit for the hour of ur test! once pasted you can beep the horn and shout at them as much as u want!

it made him pass lool

I think tests are far easier than you might think. On mine I was going up a fairly steep hill in 2nd gear, changed to 3rd and immediately started losing revs (stupid mistake down to nerves). I then went straight to 1st which lurched the car quite a lot so I automatically thought id failed within 5mins of starting the test - I just figured that there was now no pressure. I then drove faultlessly for the final 40mins and passed 1st with 4 minors :D

Just try not to be nervous and talk to your instructor.

It's not GTA and 'gouranga' will not pop up on the dash if you mount the pavement to knock a few down. It's just essentially taxing someone around for 45mins or so just relax.

Just take things slow, look in your mirrors very frequently, including your blind spots. Make it obvious that you're looking into the mirrors, ie move your head a little.

Take your time, if you feel like you've made a mistake, don't worry, just carry on, it may not be a major.

Take a quick driving lesson/mock exam with your instructor on the day, prior to your actual test; I did this and it helped a lot.

Do you know which test centre you'll be sent to? if so, do you know anyone else who had their test there? In which case ask about the route.

Get lots of sleep before the day, have breakfast. What time is your exam?

Have a quick revision session on your highway code, and questions the examiner may ask during your show me/tell me part of the test.

Try to enjoy it; it's not the end of the world if you fail first time. When I took my test my nerves dissipated. The waiting for the exam was far, far, far worse than the actual exam itself. Think about it as a glorified driving lesson.

Good luck!

Your instructor won't put you up for a test unless you're ready, it comes down to the situations that present themselves (or don't) on the day and how you deal with them.

Well apparently they will, considering the national average pass rate is something like 42%, unless 58% of people are just coming across really unlucky situtions or the examiners are just really really mean :p

More a case I suspect of people being ok in general with the instructor but panicking a bit when it comes to the actual test :)

Best advice I can give is try not to panic, drive like it's just another lesson and if anything goes wrong don't panic do what you'd do normally, and just try and enjoy the drive.
It might help a bit if you make sure all mirror checks involve positive head movement so the examiner can see you're doing the check (that frustrated me a bit, as when I was learning I set all the mirrors up so at most it was minimal head movement to see properly for general checks), and possibly talk a little to the examiner/say what you're doing as you do it "mirror, mirror mirror" "mirror signal, mirror manoeuvre", "handbrake on, neutral, window down, extend arm, stick finger up" etc.

They let my sister pass a couple of years back (how? why? I don't think she owns a skirt short enough!) so I don't think it's gotten that much worse than when I learned.

In my opinion, the theory test was harder than the practical

Just take it easy and don't panic, put the air con on, it will cool you down ;)

Don't make any silly movements like pulling out in front of a car etc, and check your mirrors like every minute or so.

ah well nerves got the best of me and i messed up with my reverse park,i had that major then 3 minors, and on way to test centre coming back this old women pulled out infront of me,from a junction, had to slam breaks on,the examiner slammed break's on,i couldnt beleive it she just put her head down then reversed back .I got a D for awereness even tho he said wasnt my fualt

Theory test was SO easy though.
It's just common sense most of it, I completed it in like half an hour including hazard perception, i find it hard to understand how people can fail it.

Unlucky mate, rebook it asap and go out and practise up what you messed up on.

I couldnt beleive how terrible i was on my test tho, felt like i forgot everything, made me seriously think when i finished am i able to do this lol.

My 2nd test is tuesday, been practicing the maneuvers allot, and feel more confident.I just hope i can stay calm and prove i can drive,my lessons go fine, feel so confident on lessons and relaxed but the test just sends me into a nervous wreck

You can take your normal instructor in the car with you on the test, I found this really helped to keep me calm as it seems more like a normal lesson
