Driving Test...

So many of mates have passed ridiculous stuff though that they have no control over - the examiners seem really keen to slam the dual pedals down or grab the steering wheel when it's completely unneccesary.

Are there any driving instructor or even better, examiners in here? I'm taking my instructor with me in the car when i take my test to deter the examiner from trying to fail me on something completely ridiculous.

Just relax, treat it like a driving lesson.

Don't react when the tester writes something down, it might be a minor fault, or it might be his own notes to keep an eye open for minors.

I'm sure my tester wrote down lots of things during my test, but I only had 5 minor faults. (3 were for not checking rear mirros when changing speed, which I'd never been told to do)

Also, if they write something down it will not be for what you have just done, they write things down a while after they happen so you don't feel pressured thinking "did I just do that wrong?".

They also have to write down when you have done something well, so writing means nothing to you.

I was worried when they kept writing things down, finished with 2 minors after 1 hour 15 mins lol.

Remember to look over your shoulder before pulling out and before changing lanes, some instructors dont teach this.

I passed my test a few weeks ago, 4 minors, 2 simply for stalling :o I agree with what has been said already, I had looked at some other driving test threads on here before mine and found someone used Rescue Remedy for stress relief - something I tried, I think it helped but then again so did a good nights sleep. Seeing as my first two were taken after working a night shift with few hours sleep in-between certainly didn't help me.

I had Rescue Remedy. Not sure what it did, probably nothing, but makes it seem like you're relaxed which is good. And you'll relax into the test. Your examiner will write down stuff anyway, no matter what you do. Like marking which manouveure you did etc... Mine wrote down quite a bit, and I got 0 minors.

Don't use too much of that stuff, it smells of alcohol. ;)

I found breathing exercises really helped before the test.

D-Day is tomorrow....!

I'm not actually worried though. Just want it to be out of the way so i know whether i can go buy the car i'm getting and drive around, or whether to rebook it and go see Nightmare on Elm Street.

My technique was being friendly with the instructor ;) have a nice chat with them - worked for me haha

"Hi, how are you?"
"You got many tests on today?"

All that kind of crap :p lol

For anyone interested, i failed :(

Apparently i kerbed it but i didn't feel it at all in the place where it supposedly happened....and when you kerb a car, you definitely feel it....

Meh, i've re-booked it anyway. There's nothing else i can do.

Oh you're in Bradford, Which test centre did you book? I had my test yesterday at Heaton.

I took it in Halifax mate - was advised strongly against Heaton or Eccleshill.

LOL. The pass rate at Heaton is meant to be low, but I kind of managed it since it's my local area. Eccleshill is meant to be good. Doesn't matter mate next time round you'll do it. These things happen, don't worry. Good luck for next time! :D

I curbed in my first test and got a minor.
Failed that on other things.

Curbed in my second test too, just before my parallel park, instructor even made a joke about it!
No minor for that, and passed.

Yeah but the guy i had was a complete wa***r to be honest....ignored me whenever i spoke to him, wore reflective sunglasses and just sounded up himself. There's professional and then there's just ignorant!

All my mates were surprised i got a major for kerbing too. Can't have bad if i did do it either otherwise i woulda felt it.

...in a couple of weeks. Any advice?

I'm getting my car the same day (whether i pass or not) - so it's either gonna be an awesome day or the complete opposite.

There's honestly not much advice that will help, it all depends on the instructor. If you get lucky you pass first time, more often than not they'll pick anything and the smallest of things to fail you on.

Nobody drives perfectly, far from it, however they expect you to drive perfectly in the test after only having driven for what, 15-20 hours, if that?

Only advice I can really give is gain some luck from somewhere and don't give up if you think you've made a mistake. On my final test I was so close to giving up as I was fed up of the whole DVLA system, however passed with 4 minors (thought I did a lot worse) :).

Oh, and move your head lots. I know it's not good practice, but at least move your head in the direction of the mirrors even if you don't look properly :p

I thought they would.
