Driving while texting

I text/email all the time whilst im driving, can't see the issue as I'm sat in traffic jams all the time and thats the best time for me to catch up on work and reply to mails.

police in London don't seem to bat an eyelid if you do it whilst in traffic so I'll carry on till I kill a child or get told off

a) only in Wales
b) the rear window of the Ka was smashed by the girls head, then intact when the Ambulance crew arrived
c) she was reasonably good looking, not anymore
d) why was that old man even driving
e) did she get to send the text?

you must be a nutter if you think talking on a mobile whilst driving is less dangerous than typing a text that you can put down at any time

I think you must be the nutter for believing the opposite. They are both distractions, but at least when talking you have full use of your eyes and hands (obviously if using a hands free kit). How can anything that takes your eyes off the road be a good idea? I can use my head unit without looking at it, open the glovebox and take sun glasses out etc without looking at it, but there is no way I can read or write a text without looking at my phone.

I don't have a problem with it when stuck in jams (though technically illegal), though you still need to be aware of emergency vehicles that may be trying to get through the traffic.

Doing it in a traffic jam is probably going to cause less of an accident than doing it travelling at 70mph on the motorway, or xx mph past a school or along a country road. So I think that although wrong, it's going to cause less issues - bar perhaps any issues arising around you or checking out summer totty in London. ;)

im not a nutter, i can just remember where the buttons are on my phone :D

However part of your brain is still concentrating on where to hit the button, what words to think, how many letters you've typed, where in the sentence you are, what to reply to the person etc...

It's foolish and daft.

I'll be honest and say I regularly text and use the phone while driving. I don't think it's much of an issue as long as you know to remain focussed on the driving. What other countries is it banned in? I've even eaten an entire chicken chow mein on the go before.

Tried it once, nearly went off the road. Stupidly dangerous activity to be doing while driving, no excuse. You'd be a safer driver having had 10 pints tbh.

My phone will read text messages to me when I press the button on my dash and say 'Read text' so its not a big deal.

When I'm in... errrr, the Dominican Republic I will often text when in a queue or when at traffic lights. Obviously not in the UK.

Loads of people say that you can use the phone or text while driving, but these are usually the people you can spot a mile off because the are all over the road whilst using their phone.

Driving to and from Hever Castle at the weekend I picked out 6 people on the A roads and M25 who were on their phone simply from they way they were driving. Anyone who says it doesn't affect them should get amate to follow them driving with a video camera.

Sat in traffic queue I have text once or twice but I really don't condone it. I always have my phone ion my pocket anyway so it would be a right faff while moving.

The problem is I'm seeing more and more people texting reading and phoning while driving than ever. I overtook some guy doing silly slow speed on an A road and becasue I did a 2nd gear VTEC special and his window was open, he **** himself and nearly fell off the road. That level of unaware is really dangerous.

It is a shame these safety videos are overdone and blatantly fake. OF course they will be, but they're more amusing tha na B movie and the message could be better tbh.

That video was a great use of old Fords though.

Is that standard then? How does it read the retarded l33t txt spk?

I have done it, but only when in a traffic jam that was basically stationary so I wasn't actually moving whilst typing on the phone.

nasty video! guess the red fiesta was texting someone whilst driving to?

i read and text back when im stopped at traffic lights, wouldn't do it when im not stationary
