I've got to the point where I can put off learning to drive no longer and so have been learning for the last few weeks. However it's so boring and I really have to force myself to do it. I came up with "It's like learning to spell, you don't want to but you have too"...

For me part of the reason is unlike other forms of motorised transport you can't have fun as it's almost entirely on roads, where anything fun is illegal. That means the only point of it for me is for work and to get to places.

Anyone else dislike driving? It seems everywhere you go people seem to like driving.:confused:


(I didn't put this in motors as it's full of petrol heads, who will obviously like driving:p)
 
I absolutely love driving. Still taking lessons at the moment, got my test booked in for November 17th.

I love jumping in the car once a week and finding my clutch control is getting awesomer by the hour.

I'm not a big fan of driving either. Never got round to learning even though it would be so useful for me. Not sure why I don't want to learn, would make getting to and from uni so much easier rather than having to take a bus!

I get dragged out almost daily with my parents, either to just go and drive or to go to the shops/grandparents etc.

Haven't had any proper lessons yet. Unfortunately I really need to know how to drive as a lot of the jobs I'm interested in mean a lot of driving will be involved.:(
 
I have been driving 9 years and its nothing special, its expensive to run a car with fuel, tax, mot, insurance, services, parts/tyres, payments on the cars, It has to be done if you want to work unless you live within cycling or walking distance or even public transport, the roads are just a nightmare at 8-9am then dinner and rush hour. Plus you have to go out and avoid crap drivers and then some body keys your car and you think whats the point.

Its always worth having your driving licence, I hardly drive anymore but I could take a job 40 miles away if I wanted to.
 
Currently learning to drive myself at the moment like a few others i see on this thread, lived in a student flat at university last year although i want to live at home when i start back in september and drive in. So i started learning around 2/3 months ago cramming in 4 hours a week due to the short time frame, passed theory first time and booked test for 21st september just in time for university to start again but i also have to force myself to get up and go to lessons.

Although i honestly don't believe it will be like that when i pass and have my own car and am going places because i need/want to go there. I assumed most people would feel like that to :p

Oh and the opportunities for more jobs is a major bonus to, student loan only goes so far...
 
I was always a little bored by driving, I didn't dislike it, but I found no joy in it, learnt in a nice car, bought a crappy little banger, all very meh, then I got a new car recently, more powerful than I was used to, and because the car tells me to, I drive a bit more agressively, and as such...got done for speeding :/

so I find it depends on the car somewhat, but I don't go out for random drives because I like driving, though I know many who do just get in the car and drive around for hours
 
My driving lessons were interesting because my instructor kept pointing out hot girls and generally swooning all over the place.

I like driving though, you don't need to drive illegally to have fun either :p

I love driving, great fun.
 
I find driving one of the most tedious things I have to do.
I used to enjoy it, before I ended up doing it for a living, now I have a job where I dont have to drive, I still find it very, very..............dull.
 
I loathed driving lessons with a passion, would find any excuse under the sun to not do them.

9 Years on and I've just driven to Mongolia and I can't even imagen not being able to drive, I love it!

Just stick at it, It's diffrent when you've got the freedom of going out on your own when you want.
 
I was surprised at how quickly I've been learning. Had 6x1hour lessons so far and my instructor says i'm ready to book my test. Just need to pass my theory on the 1st Sept :p

I'm enjoying it though, i like the feeling that you're controlling the car and it always amazes me how someone actually thought of how to get it to work.

Here is a tip for the hazard.

3 clicks for every hazard. Once as the hazard approaches. Once going past the hazard and once after the hazard.

You’ll find there are quite a few here. :p

I love driving, sure it can be boring at times but that is made up by the freedom go where I choose whenever I choose. :)
 
Driving is like cycling, walking or running. After some time it becomes just a normal thing (especially if you drive in London every day same route to work), having said that if you do have a chance of driving in different condition ie motorway over the speed limit it brings some kind of excitement.
