Is your mate somehow retarded? He honestly bought one of the latest PC releases and expected it to play on a Pentium 3 system? Did he not think to read the requirements before purchasing it?
I call shenanigans!
He has aspergers syndrome actually

Interesting topic thats raised a few good points, Its a shock to see that companies are struggling to sell games to the masses, be interesting to see some figures from pre 2000, when games on the PC were quite popular, Like doom 3d and so on.

They're not struggling though. In fact the games industry is one of the few areas weathering this economic storm quite well. It is also likely that you'll still find piracy to be rife but not as well reported on by the media.
Personally, I blame a lack of sales on one thing and that's the disappearance of playable demo's. I was mulling over buying Lost Planet earlier and when I went to do it I noticed I could download the demo. Suffice to say I did not buy the game as it is a horrible console port.
Linky? I have the 1.020 patch and it sure isn't included with that. Would like to reclaim my drive bay!GTA4 is so easy to setup and run.Install GFWL & R* and thats it the game auto installs for you anyway. R* even release a no dvd patch after a month so you would not need to keep the DVD in the drive.[/U][/B]

I'm not a fan of DRM
Reason?
Typical example...
I bought RA3 a while back when it came out and wanted to play it on lan with friends and family as a one day thing, but as it has a maximum install of 3 i actually had to get access to an illegal copy just for the day despite actually owning the proper one.
This to me was just ridiculous
I remember as a kid i'd arrange lans with friends and we'd generally mostly have the game (like C&C / red alert 1 / quake 1 etc) but we'd play with some other mates who wouldn't have it yet. We'd install it on their pc's for them and play a 5-6 player game in the same house at weekends sometimes, then at a later time they'd more than likely buy the game so they could practice etc. Wheres the harm in that? To me its a million miles away from blatent piracy and i'm finding this DRM stuff really tedious and i actually find its encouraging myself and others to pirate software....
I can see the reasons why they're trying to introduce things like DRM but its hindering the wrong people..as someone has already said..crysis being one of the most downloaded games ever![]()

Hmm no joy with that exe, get the below:http://www.securom.com/support/customers/rockstar/GTAIV_t326/LaunchGTAIV.zip

All this does is bypasses the need to have the DVD in the drive. It still needs to remain activated online.
Its childs play you need to launch the game with the new exe you downloaded not the shortcut it points to by default!Hmm no joy with that exe, get the below:

The bigger problem is literally people who never buy any games and almost download every game that comes out just for the sake of it overnight.
