Drobo Issues :(

As title, have a drobo 4 bay version 2 (firewire 800 - which doesnt work properly) and usb 2.

Basically the 1st problem is I have 4x 1.5tb drives in there and every 2-3 days it gives me a warning my drive has failed, I think I have 2x samsungs and 2x western digital greens. There is NOTHING wrong with the drives, I plugged them into pc and did a low level scan and they work fine, put them back in the drobo and all is well with the world for a couple of days - whats wrong here? I have the latest firmware etc.

2nd when I plug it in via firewire my pc hangs, also if I boot the pc with it still plugged in it just blue screens and restarts - prob a pc issue here,its a texas insturments firewire card pci-e, running windows 7, any ideas ?

I seem to remember that the WD greens are unsuitable for RAID arrays - they don't support TLER and the drive heads try and park themselves all the time.

Ahh bugger, so maybe the drive heads are parking and the drobo thinks the drives failed ?

That would be my guess, but check out Drobo forums to see if people have similar issues.

HMMM iv googled around and other people are using greens in the drobo without issue, so im not getting whats going on here ?

Hmmm looked in the system and it turns out I have, 2x samsung, 1x green and a seagate..... apparently seagates have issues? why ?

Seems the seagate drive has failed, 2nd on in 2 months, bought 2 of them from OCUK in Jan and they have both had it, thought they were cheap

Just to confirm, I've got 2x2TB WD Greens in mine. No problems at all.

(and now I'm a bit worried about the Seagate drive I'm using as my OS drive

)
