Dropbox free storage space

I thought it had to be from a device though either digital camera or mobile? And it has already started now so what should I do?

To be honest I've no idea.

Perhaps someone who's done it can help.

It seems daft having to have a phone or camera connected to your PC for several hours.

As you've already started perhaps you should just leave it if you have no pressing need for your phone for however long it's going to take.

Thanks for the help :)

You're welcome.

I'm assuming Dropbox aren't offering any more extra space than the 5gbs a few weeks ago?

His link is wrong, mine is the correct one at the beginning of the thread. The date has passed for the other one. You can still earn 3GB though.

EDIT: This link takes you to the new post: http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=55007

I have only just joined personally, so I am not entirely sure. It does say something about the people who were trying to get the 5GB still have chance to get the full amount by using the new feature.

Check my previous post for the correct link.

Thanks :)

Right so I have got the free space for using camera upload. Is there a quick way to get the space for friend referrals? Instead of actually having to invite people.

Thanks everyone.

Inviting people gets the most amount of space, You can create bogus dropbox accounts and install the clients into VMs to activate them

Thats exactly what I was thinking, so do I need to create 32 email addresses? For the 8GB of space? Also how would I install into a VM would I need a seperate VM for each client?

Thanks a lot :)

I'm not sure sure what dropbox looks for but i'm fairly sure you can't reuse the same VM for all the clients unless maybe you changed some hardware config settings (No idea which ones if this is the case though) Maybe deploying from template if using vmware will generate a unique machine? Just throwing ideas as i gave up after 2 because i couldn't be bothered making the email addresses :D

To anyone that hasn't done it yet, I got the extra space for camera uploads by copying loads of photos and videos from my computer onto my phone and using the Android app to do the rest.

When i did this I just reused the same video file ~250Mb and copied it multiple times onto a stick :D, 0 effort for 5GBs of space

So I found this:

http://en.www.ali.dj/how-to-increase-the-size-of-your-dropbox-to-10gb/

But I don't know if that will work or not. What do people think?

Thanks :)

Try it out , i'm currently using the template technique with a windows 7 box, template took a few minutes to configure (Essentially just changing sysprep), and after than its just click and clone, then install db with my referral link, no need to even create emails accounts, just type in fakes ones ;)

It'll only get you 3GB..

You might aswell just pay the 6 odd quid for 50GB

Erm, this is for the extra 8GB for friend referrals. The 3GB is for using the experimental forum build.

How does that work then? No idea what you mean! I just don't want to get into trouble doing it :)

Thanks

This is a good guide on it:
http://articles.skufel.net/2011/12/create-virtual-machine-template-for-vmware-workstation-8/
Basically you install Windows 7, change sysprep to make the OS generic, then when you clone it you'll get windows generating all the necessary values to make the OS unique when it boots. Then its a case of using the referral link, making a drop box account (you don't need a real email address as theres no confirmations) install and then enjoy the space. Delete the VM and clone again, 10 minutes per and most of that is just waiting so you can be doing other things on the PC :) Although i guess DB would frown on it i don't thing they'll ever find out

Thats great! From reading the tutorial I think it is all within the virtual machine? I am not affecting my actual OS am I?

Also I have VMware Player is that OK?

Thanks a lot :)

Yep stays all in the VM, although i don't know if vmware player supports the clone feature, i've only experience in workstation. The only way i can imagine it would affect the actual OS is if you're using the same activation key for the VMs and the Host (I'm using a spare key for my vms so it shouldn't affect my main system)
