I personally think that waiting 3 weeks to see a GP should not be accepted as "normal", in fact it's a shambles. Symptoms can get a lot worse in that time and especially in the case of the elderly, the patient could then become too sick to even get to the doctor's surgery. Cue an trip to A&E which could have been avoided in the first place.
Whether it should be or not is a different issue however 3 weeks is normal. Its no use having a go at the receptionist, the surgeries only have limited resources and personally i think they do a good job., If its an emergency then they should leave slots open for you, they dont have an unlimited amount.
Its people going to the doctors with colds etc which gets me annoyed.
Absolutely this. They then proceed to spread it to fellow people in the waiting room.
I've only had to see my doctor once in the past 3 or so years, so was just a bit put out that when I do have an ailment, I have to wait flippin' ages. I have to fit my appointments around work so I'll probably have to go to one of those walk in centres and stump up the dosh to get an appointment and referral letter. :/

wel ofc its not an acurate transcript but tbh the point is why do they make you wait when u obviously need something now. or i wouldnt phone now.
to be told you have to wait 3 weeks is a disgrace
and you cant just phone and change your doctor you have to be in the area that the surgery covers in my area at least . A and E is not a prefered option as it should not be relied upon for normal things only accidents and emergencys
they are over subscribed yes and that is the reason but its still damn annoying when you cant get past the receptionist because they cant find a slot
in the old days you turned up sat and waited in a que between x hours and x hours somehow i think that was better sitting in a reception for 3 hours seems better than an appt 3 weeks down the road..
they dont take drop ins now u have to make appointments

Why didn't you ask for an emergency appointment? Surgeries have to have emergency slots, usually either very early on the morning, or very late on (usually the former).
If the emergency slots are booked up and you feel like you have to see someone, you can call NHS Direct who can direct you to the nearest out-of-hours centre. Failing that, if it's actually something serious, you can go to A&E.
What exactly was the problem anyhow?
