Hi guys,

I want to get back in to drumming. I drummed about 5 years ago and I was using a cheap kit back then and it did the job fine.

I only did my first 2 grades, I moved house and didn't have the room to play again.

Now I have the room again and I'd like a new kit. I know I can't expect anything brilliant for £200, but could I still get something decent do you think?

Or wont it be worth playing at all? I'll want it PURELY for in house use, messing about on.

Thanks

Yeah I could go 2nd hand and see what I'd get. I wouldn't mind something crappy though just until I get to grips again.

a lot of drum shops sell cheap kits, lemme hook you up real quick, to be honest though fella that is really low, is that the max you can stretch too?

something like this id suggest -

its not going to be great and might not last long, but see how you get on... if you want any help i dont mind swapping a few emails and finding you a semi decent kit, new or second hand, i've been playing for around 17 years now so your safe with me!

Thanks for the replys guys. £200 would indeed be my max budget. I've seen some CB sets for around £200 new which seem popular to new drummers.

my beginner set was similar to a cb kit they are good kits for starting out but dont expect amazing sounds!

Expect the cymbals to lose their sound after you've hit them 10 times.
Chances are if they're setup in your bedroom you're going to be dampening them down anyway so the difference between a CB & DW set will be negligible soundwise.
Still try and look for a 2nd hand kit because you should get a little bit more for your money.

whats so amazin about DW dave?

So guys, what should I get then? Should I just go for the new CB kit @ £200.00? I'm ready to order right now,

I've seen a 'dragon' kit on the bay of E for only £100, it's in great condition and they are about £200 new.

All those Dragon kits are collection only and the closest is Mansfield (maybe Newport) so do your petrol homework.
It may be cheaper just to buy the CB kit.

The dragon kit I saw on ebay was in Crewe mate. I know the CB kit will probably sound crap, I just hope it'd be ok for starting out on again.

This is going to have much more longevity than a CB kit, I have put together a few in the past. Awful things. I see where Neoni is coming from but they really really inferior.

2nd hand Pearl, then pop to a shop and get a Sabian cymbal pack for £100 and you will be doing well.

Just called that one, it's now sold.

I don't know if to just go with the CB..

I'd consider looking at second hand Roland kits on the bay - especially if you're just looking at playing at home. I think you'd need to stretch your budget a bit, but not too much.

I've got an old TD8K kit incorporated in my Tama kit & the sounds are very good - the mesh heads feel really good as well.

£200 is my absolute maximum. I'm already stretching it as it is. I can't find any 2nd hands one local, except the CB and 'Dragon' one.

I would go with the CB as I said, what do you think? Would it be decent enough for at home?
