Drum kit £200

Oggie, great drummer, great bloke.
He's the drummer with DEMON - http://the-demon.com/
I was going to suggest Rhythm House but I keep forgetting the name :)

can you get it home OK?

He kindly delivered it for me at 6colock. Saved me a lot of hassle! I'm very impressed with the kit, it may not be the best thing but to me is sounds fine. He gave me some brand new Staag hi-hats and crash aswell, better than the default ones anyway!

Now I just need to drop on a another tomtom as this kit only came with one. No big deal for the moment as I'm only learning still but I'm going to try and drop on one asap, any idea how much I could except to pay for a low end one?

I'm picking it up quite easy so far though, my 2 years of playing 5 years ago didn't really leave me. My timing is still good and I can put a few beats together. I also arranged lessons again which should be a big help!

Cheers

Ask Oggie to look out for one for you.

Yeah will do. I only want something cheap though, I'll probabaly pick something up on the Bay for £40 or so.

My current tom is 12", what should I go for? A 10" or 13"?

13" is the natural size to pair with a 12" if you want a good rock setup - 12/13/16.

If you have a smaller floor tom (14) then 10" makes a good standard size of 10/12/14, but if your floor tom is 16 then I think that 10/12/16 is a bit too large a gap between the rack toms and floor toms. Suppose others will think differently - my old kit covered all gaps! (8/10/12/14/16 :D)

Glad to see you're getting back into drumming, such a great thing to do :)

If you want hints/tips/advice on drumming in general and to drool over other people's gorgeous kits go to www.pearldrummersforum.com

I visit there quite a lot and there's a lot of nice people over there from all over the world :)

When I were a lad I was always taught to miss a size - 10", 12", 14" etc unless you could afford a kit like Neil Peart

I personally dont see the point in one size step, theres no real difference in sound in my opinion, especially if its same wood/kit, id do a larger step of 2" personally!

Really getting back into this now! Sucks I can only play a few beats though and I can only do 1-2 simple fills.

Any tips on how I'd go about learning new beats? I'm hoping when I take my lessons they'll help me with picking new beats up.

Looks like I need to replace my hi-hat clutch aswell so I ordered one today. The foot pedal on the hi hat stand sometimes goes all the way down, so it makes my top hi hat extend loads. It's just a hassle adjusting it a lot but from what I was reading online it sounds like it's the clutch that's a bit dodgy.

Talk it over with Oggie.

Right, but 10/12/16 would be more than just a step between the 12 and 16!

Safest option is the huge kit option :D

If it is the clutch I aren't really bothered because it was only £8 ao I'm not to fussed. If it is the hi hat stand hopefully he'll be able to repair/replace.

I'll be looking at about £40 for a cheap 10" tom which is better than I expected, so I'm going to get one asap.

When I learnt last time I had the 2 toms so my kit feels empty at the moment!
