The hinges on my DS lite have cracked, and this morning the right one went completely, taking out the hinge mechanism.

Is this a known problem? It hasnt been dropped or mistreated, feel pretty gutted!

I had this problem but unfortunately I'd lost the reciept.
Rang up gamestation and gave them a few details, and they emailed me a replacement reciept. I was told to go back to the shop and they swapped it for a brand new one :)

You'll have to send it off though, and that that takes time unfortunately.
Depends if you can live without your DS for a few days, I know I couldn't.

If you still have the reciept then go back to the shop and get it exchanged.

I got response from Nintendo, because i cant find the receipt, they wont repair it without me paying £25.15 as it may be second hand. (its not second hand for the record), so ill try taking it back to the place i got it tomorrow and see if they will swop it without receipt.

Apparently second hand DS's dont carry any warranty.

The theory and the law goes that Nintendo's contact is with the original buyer and your contract is with the 3rd party buyer (if it was second hand). Hence they refused warranty if it a second hand product.

That would be fair enough if it actually was second hand though, but i cant prove its not, doh.

Even if you don't have the receipt, if this was paid for using a Credit/Debit card then showing the statement is normally proof enough. However if you paid cash then you could be stuck.

LOL.

I replied to nintendo saying that i was cancelling my wii pre order in protest at their refusal to deal with my warranty call without a receipt. I just got this receipt from them which made me chuckle. (btw, i didnt cancel it, i just wondered what they would say).

Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.

I am sorry that your are potentially depriving yourself of experiencing probably the biggest leap forward in home gaming ever because of our insistence in following the rules but I am pleased that your retailer was able to help you. Had you had the paperwork available at the outset we would have been able to do the same for you.

Kind regards,

Your Nintendo Team

Is this a problem with many DS Lites?
or have they stopped it happening to the latest ones?

I'm contemplating getting a Black DS Lite, probably trading in my PSP for one, but don't want one falling apart on me.
