Iv recently got a new pc setup because i was getting poor performance in bf2142, i went from a a64 3700 to a conroe e6600. And yes im still getting really bad performance in 2142 with everything set medium. This is getting seriously ridiculous, iv spent well over 1000 now trying to get a gaming pc to play these games smoothly so i can enjoy myself when im at home.

Corsair HX 620W
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4
Connect3D x1900xt 512mb
2x 80gb wd sata drives in raid 0 (using the gigabyte controller) (OS)
1x IDE 40gb (Music)
x-fi xtreme music
Sony DVD-RW
floppy drive

i also have CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function disabled.

My problem is a number of things. Main one is i cant play 2142 in medium settings smoothly with a constant fps of above 60.

Another prob i got is the poor performance i get in windows. Its fast, but still messes up at times, like today when i was transfering files from my 40gb drive to my raid setup... It stopped responding. And generaly keeps freezing up for a thew seconds ect..

And another prob is my core temps are idling at 58/57... believe it or not..

the only thing i havnt upgraded is the hdd's. EVERYTHING else i have now upgraded because of this issue.

its deffenetly attached securly. and im using the stock cooler as my ninja i bought had a bent bracket and a worn clip so it wouldnt connect to the mobo properly.

:D nice one thanx for that

how do you change the voltage on the ds4? because the ctrl+f1 (cpu v control or soemthing) Isnt doing its job, even if i change that setting to its lowest possible, it stays high

at the moment, cpuz is telling me its at 1.296, then it switches to 1.280 for a second and goes back to 1.296 is this normal??

im trying to achive lower/normal temps so i can overclock. and im trying to work out which of my components is faulty (if any). And most of all im trying to work out whats causing 2142 to play at a bad fps.

when i lower the cpu v in bios from 1.325 (1.296 in cpuz) to 1.200. In windows it shows it as 1.213 and the cpu core temps have gone up from roughly 55 to 71/68

so i lower the cpu core v from 1.325 to 1.200 and temps fly up 15C

doesnt make sense does it

please can someone help me because im totaly stuck and getting really unhappy with all this. I dont know what to do.

I thought i knew a lot about building pc's, but from day 1 iv been having problems that others dont get.

All the above were already set. But now i reseated all the components and tidied up all my cables which did improve airflow, decreasing my core temps to 45-50 on both cores (idle) 62-60 load (intel tat and everest)

superpi 1mb test - 21s
superpi 8mb test - 4m 10s

in 3dmark, half way through graphics test 3 which is dragon flight.. the graphics get distorted ( as seen below) , but still runs.
It also does it on the last test which is deep freeze. I didnt bother collecteing the score so i aborted. I ran this 2 or 3 times and the distortion starts in the exactly the same place
i noticed you cant disable the robust graphics booster (or whatever its called) in bios so i set it from auto to fast, i thought auto was putting it in turbo or something.
anyway that didnt work. I havnt got my gc overclocked unless im missing somehting in bios.. i dont think its a temp problem because it starts in the exactly the same place each test.

so i downloaded att and ran the 3d renderer whilst watching temps and their max increase were 70c (gpu) and 57c (Vrm) without artifacts.
Also whilst watchin the renderer (the blue spinning spaceship looking thing) I noticed hitching/stuttering which is what i get in games, which f'ing anoys me so much. (number 1 pissoff)

Anyway i will download 3dmark06 again to see if maybe the installation was bad or something and give it another go. Although i cant see why a bad installation of this programme would cause the artifacts as seen in the pics.

my cpu fan runs at 1692

voltage values are the following

cpu core - 1.28v / 1.30v
+3.3v - 3.30v
+12v 11.58
+5v - 5.05
DIMM - 2.11

the overclocking/voltage window in ati tray tools shows me the following:

Current gpu voltage - 1.2000

current memory voltage - 2.0861

I dont think these voltages change because overdrive isnt turned on.

62-60 load (intel tat and everest)

it stays a little higher than idle when running the renderer (SLOWLY rises 5c

i dont know how to minitor cpu temps during 3dmark sorry

ok will do, thanx for that WJA96

Im only getting these artifacts in 3DMark06 so maybe it was a bad install or something, i still havnt managed to redownload it so am not sure.

2142 still runs really poorly.. with Crap fps drops and stutters, High temps is all i can think of which could be causing this, as i have changed all my parts apart from the 2 western digital hdd's.

at the moment im sticking with an antec tricool for the intake, which has a 3 speed setting on it. And a normal akasa green led for exhaust.

i would only have to pay to get the board sent back as it still works ok

anyway the eclipse has done nothing at all!!

The cabling has improved massively,
now tats telling me core temps are 56/56 idle

maybe it could be a bad chip or mobo?

i wanted a new case which is easy to get in and out, as im replacing parts a lot

Iv taken some pics of my pc, it doesnt look healthy at all, i think im too heavy handed with my components..

I normaly spread the paste across the heatsink but this time i did it different which didnt change a thing

does anyone else get scratch marks on their cpu?? Do you think it would affect temperatures?

I have just order a spych infinity and some arctic silver 5, surly if my temps stay idling at 50 their is something wrong with either the chip or mobo

well i have uninstalled it as i never get artifacts on bf2 and 2142. Just 3dmark06

I still cant play bf2 and 2142 with everything maxed at 1440x900

and my cpu is idling at 41/42 right now but its pretty cold.

I will be getting my new cooler this wednesday, ALtho i cant see a lower cpu temp helping out my games

What version of 3D' 06 are you running - you know there was an update in the last week or so? It was to correct a problem in the canyon run test, which looks like your problem.

thanx for that i will redownload it now then
