Installed Vista AFTER I installed XP.

There is NO BOOT OPTION when I start my computer.

I think Vista has broken my XP Partition.

Cheg this screen shot and let me know what you think.

C: Drive which I am on now and which Vista is installed on is apparently a "Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Logical Drive"

What is this?

G: Drive which XP is installed on is still an Active, Primary Partition but I can't boot into it at all anymore.

Help.

Fanx.

Does Vista's bootloader see the XP install?
You need to install XP first and then Vista, and vista takes care of everything.

No idea why the disc is showing up that way though, it's formatted to NTFS I take it?

I'd image vista, reformat that parition then slide vista back in.

I don't know what image vista means.

XP was installed first. I've had XP on here for about 6 months. Installed Vista yesterday. Now I can't get onto XP.

go get bcedit -> edit the vista bootloader to show XP iirc vista doesnt use the boot.ini system it uses a different file ?

anyway bcedit should sort that boot into vista -> install -> edit -> reboot -> enjoy

(wait its that way round for vista install first?)

The good question is did you start the Vista install when you were in XP or not? If you start the Vista install from in XP then do a custom install to the seond partition, it creates a dual boot menu for you.

Sounds like you formated the 'c' drive before installing vista, this wipes out the needed boot.ini (I think its this bit anyway).

Download easy bcd and follow instructions (a quick google if you can't figure it out) about adding an entry to the boot menu.

If xp and vista are installed you should be able to access both.

Doesnt work.

Vista was not installed while I was in XP. I used the Vista DVD from startup.

Vista has taken over C Drive and moved XP to G Drive.

I think XP used to be C but can't remember, It wasn't G anyway.

you sure about that? if so i'll install vista right now!

Hi

I had the same problem to - go to this page and look at a little guide I did - this did work for me so hopefully it'll work for you also

I've tried setting up XP in easybcd but it never works. The option appears during start up but selecting XP receives an error and I have to then press enter, which goes back to boot choice screen and then I choose Vista.

This will never be solved.

i just did what senture said (install vista while in XP) and i can dual boot vista and XP just fine.

I've used Easy BCD.

Is no one even reading what I'm writing?

I may as well say for the 19th time that I installed XP BEFORE I installed Vista just incase anyone missed it.

I realise I won't get any help now but I'm convinced no one here has the knowledge required to solve this anyway.

Thanks.

I'm sorry, but you're mistakenly under the impression that it matters.

Have you tried using grub instead? Download the super grub disk.

And can I suggest not being quite so dismissive? It doesn't make people want to help you ;) :)

can you post a copy of your overview from easy bcd (its the first thing that should load gives similar to below)

heres mine for reference (I had the sense to back it up in advance :)) and I lost my xp due to formatting the vista partition.

Code:
There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader.
Bootloader Timeout: 15 seconds.
Default OS: Windows Vista SP1 64bit

Entry #1
Name: Windows XP SP3 32bit
BCD ID: {ntldr}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \ntldr

Entry #2
Name: Windows Vista SP1 64bit
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

For reference my vista install is on C:\ drive and the xp on the F:\ when in vista. In xp that gains the C:\ status.
Drives are partitioned 120,60,60 with the 120 being vista and the first 60 being xp. I installed xp first then a fresh install of vista initially but a reinstall screwed up (I formatted) the boot and the above fixed it.
