Having recently upgraded to a x2-3800, I'm finding that my extra core is having adverse effects on some games. I've noticed other threads where people are having issues which maybe related to this. If you use dual core please could you post which cpu, what games you play and which ones have had problems which have ben resolved by only running on a single core. This would allow people to discount dual core issues on certain games.

x2-3800 @ Stock
BF2 - Have to run single core (game keeps disconnecting)
TOCA RD3 - Have to run single core (Animations/typing run at hyperspeed)
Oblivion - No problems

Thanks,
Cheesy.

CSS: Fine
RTCW: Fine
COD2: Fine
Quake 4: Fine (dual core enabled, super smooth ;) )
BF2: Connections problems (disabled VOIP, seemed fine but disconnect once last night)

haven't tryed any others yet.

EA should pull their finger out and enable dual core for BF2, that would be shweet!

Or DiCE should :)

In my opinion, I'd prefer to see a game build with dual core/64-bit in mind from the beginning, rather than a half-assed effort patched in.

To the OP. Have you tried the following:

1). install the latest AMD CPU drivers

2). Install the MS hotfix (if your XP SP2) as per technet article: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=896256 remembering to do the registry tweaks outlined in the article.

3). Check your boot.ini has the /usepmtimer at the end of the [operating system] line that boots your system

The reason I ask is that I have an X2 4400 and initially had problems with a few games such as EQ2, Rfactor, GTR plus a few others, since I did all three things above I have had much better luck with running games without having to run em of 1 core including BF2 and TRD3.

Oops my bad :P

i got mixed up, i worked for EA testing it thats why ;)

Ive an AMD 64 x2 4400+, i installed the dual core patch that was for COD2 (called intel something but works with any dual core cpu) and ive had no trouble due to dual core.

BF2
COD2
Fear
Quake 4
etc etc :D

EDIT: XP Home OS

I've used a far simpler fix. Task out of the game, find the process on the task manager and right click. Select affinity and set it to run on a single core. Problem solved with no hassle.

Ive got a x2 3800 and as far as I know havent installed any patch for it. BF2 runs fine for me, Ive got latest patch etc.

When I closed down the game it looked like it was doing stuff on both cores (got Samurize to check cpu history).

Dont play many other games.

Quoted for Truth

I was having problems in Need for Speed, BF2, Unreal Tournament and a few other older games. Did the first of the 2 above fixes, everything works fine now.

Havent checked the third one, where can I find that file?

Of course I have, that's just common sense. My point is, I shouldn't have to.

Surely if the dual core users raised a stink something would be done about it. Perhaps report it as a bug to the developers concerned?

Newer games have dual core support (or have after patches, such as Quake 4).

I've installed the latest cpu driver, but wimped out on step 2 as I've only just got my pc running and didn't want to go messing with the registry yet
Spending 90% of my time in Oblivion atm which runs fine, will try the patch when I get back into bf2. Cheers.
