I got a job offered in Dubai to work for a school. Just wondering if anyone in this forum has been there and worked...(dont worry this is not the only place im asking :P)

Live in the UAE, go to dubai fairly often. Overall a nice place, lots of construction and concrete which isn't great, but I say go for it. Makes you appreciate England much more when you go home. Cost of living is not really that cheap, food is just as expensive if not more with a much worse selection and going out is pretty expensive, but you will most likely be earning more.

I can't imagine it to be a place where you can go partying and have a great time. :p

Course you can, lots of great places, no trouble and you can leave things lying around without fear of it being stolen, just don't crawl out of a club being abusive and shouting at police officers and you'll be fine. Some of the locals definitely know how to party!

go for it. I would love an opportunity like that. Even if you only do it for 12months. think of the experience. Unless you have ties.

cheers guys

I just finished university, so I''m wondering if I should stick around here and get some experience... or get stuck in a 3 year contract in dubai...expected to be paid 7000dh (£1,100) a month with accommodation paid for

Wasn't there a big hoo haa recently with lots of people who had "accomodation" paid for lost that right and couldn't afford to live there any more?

Sharon Stone is 51 ;)

You'd hit this?

arigold, I have friends who will be teaching english in schools in seoul, tokyo etc. I think you might find those places more enjoyable. I was speaking to someone who was doing one of these programs and he said he didn't want to go to dubai, riyadh etc. simply because it wouldn't be enjoyable. Getting paid and then not being able to spend it on things you enjoy is not really a life.

Wouldn't you need to know some Japanese for Tokyo though to survive

Was my first question. English medium schools don't require you to know anything other than english. As for day to day life, I imagine you'd pick things up quickly. Also you do get some basic training although not sure if it includes languages.

What? What cant you spend it on, precisely?

The problem with teaching in Japan is that it's a very expensive country in general and the pay is relatively poor. That's supply and demand for you.
