Ducati Diavel

I don't wanna join the argument. I'm at a neutral stance as I have no idea how reliable or unreliable ducati's are.

I can only presume some models are better than others.

I will also point out that several members of this forum ride ducati's, some ride more than one even, so they can't be all that terrible?

I really really really want one, and probably will buy one just waiting for them to become £10k :)

Thanks for the input, guys, I hadn't actually heard any horror stories about Ducati before, so would be interested in hearing first-hand accounts of what people have had gone wrong with theirs?

I like the look of the diavel and the streetfighter, if i had the money i would get one. I have also heard that the electronics is bad, parts are expensive and its italian stay away. But tbh thats just something ive heard from random people and ill make my own judgement. If i listened to other people i probably wouldnt be riding a motorbike cause their too dangerous:rolleyes:

If you want the ducati get it, but only if you post some pics up and come to the ocuk bike meet:D

I've owned a Ducati Monster 600, a Supersport 750, and a Supersport 900ie. All apparently from the era of "dodgy" electrics, ha!

The monster had an electrical fault, at 10 years old and 42k miles it needed the rear indicator lights replacing because the connectors had corroded. Cost me £16 from the Ducati dealer for the parts and took me 10 minutes to fit them. It was my first non-125 and I sold it after putting 28k miles on it commuting in all weather and at all times of the year. I dropped it countless times through my own stupidity and it held up very well, never needing more than a lever or a front indicator. Only visible damage was scratches on the exhaust and the bar ends. Otherwise it had nothing wrong with it the whole time I owned it and all I spent was on normal servicing.

The 750SS had 1 electrical fault, someone in the bikes past had put the airbox back in badly and trapped a wire from the regulator/rectifier against the frame where eventually it wore through and the wire needed replacing, a free fix. I owned this bike from 1000 miles and put another 30k on it commuting in all weather at all times of the year before I sold it. Again only tyres and servicing required.

The 900SSie is currently my race bike so I can't really comment on that. No problems with it so far but it does get fussed over and none of the road gear is left on it to go wrong. It had 19K miles on the clock when I ripped the speedo off it.

Hope you appreciate some informed and first hand experience of Ducati's. In case you think I'm some sort of Ducati fanboy I've also owned: Kawasaki AR125, Honda NSF125, Kawasaki ZXR750, Aprilia RSVR Mille, Suzuki GS500 and my current Suzuki 1250 Bandit.

Lol @ wazza, what a **** lol.

A cagiva is nothing like a Ducati.

Wazza, I suggest you take your false opinions and bugger off mate. Fanbois are not really welcome in this section of the forum and you are making your self out to be a bit of a prat. Move on.

As for the OP, don't just stop at the Diavel, try something else as well, as the twins ride very different to IL4's. So give your self some room to try other great bikes as well.

I'll be attending, Bakes, just on the Bonnie for now. Diavel is a pipe-dream, something to save for in 2012 and get in the future, when they're a tad less pricey.

Dureth, thanks very much for the informed and balanced response, I appreciate it. To me it sounds like, whilst you had problems with the electrics like Wazza was suggesting, they are the kind of problems you'd get with any bike as a daily rider, rather than some sort of massive drama with Ducati's electrics as a whole.

I'm definitely going to test a few others, and not just Ducatis, I'm just really not sure what else I like. Originally it was based purely on looks of the Diavel, but then I read up about the tech on the bike itself and was amazed. I'm think the Streetfighter is the only other Ducati I'd really go for. That said, this is all preliminary thoughts, just something to save up for in the future and drool over in the showroom for now.

your a biker and you don't know Italian bikes are rubbish? Can't be much of a biker then

Hmm, that must make me not much of a biker too then. Despite my 20 years of riding, 20+ bikes owned and 100s of thousands of miles covered.

I've owned 2 Italian bikes. A Cagiva X-Raptor and an Aprilia RSV1000 Factory. Both were great bikes and didn't seem to go wrong any more often than any of the Jap bikes I've owned.

The view that all Italian bikes are unreliable bags of spanners belongs in the past. Modern Ducatis, Aprilias, Bimotas, Guzzis are fine machines.

I know plenty of Ducati owners and the only one who has any issues is the one with a highly tuned 996 SPS, and that's because it's a highly tuned 996 SPS, not because it's a Ducati. All the oweners of modern Ducatis that I know love them and have had no issues with them. I even know someone who commutes on a Monster 900ie rain or shine.
