Duke Nukem Forever - did anyone else like it?

I only played about a hour into it (due to a reinstall) but i was quite enjoying it . It is`nt anything special but its ok.
I actually loathe the halo games after finishing the 1st one i swore never again LOl
It`s probably due to the fact i hate fps with a pad.

Meh, I enjoyed it :)

Has a number of flaws, long loading times (~45 seconds to re-load from where you died) Some of the levels are terrible but on the whole reminds me of a 2000-2003 on-rails shooter. Its a bit of fun and made a change from the serious FPS out there currently.

Got it off Amazon for £4.60 earlier in the week, put about an hour or two into and honestly can't be bothered to continue at the moment. Just completely 'meh'

Hence why i've Platted it and it's on eBay now, it's an abortion of a game.

Then again you have a cringe-worthy Steve Jobs signature, couldn't expect a coherent retort to be honest.

If it was such an abortion of a game why would you bother to play it so much you got all the trophies on it?

Very odd, are you a masochist?

it was great to be back in the Duke's shoes and play a non-"metro-sexual" hero for a change

Hehe, I thought that might raise the odd (hopefully non-manicured) eyebrow.

Basically, Metrosexual is defined here.

Most heroic characters from games in recent years fall under this classification e.g. the sensitive, image-conscious 'type' who is also "tough" etc. Sort of an every-man of gaming if you will...

Duke however, does not. He is the kind of guy who will substitute a flag for a babe in Capture-The-Flag before proceeding to "capture" her, swear profusely at any situation, and generally kick ass when he is out of gum. He is, in other words, much more fun to play as a character.

Capisce?

I don't need a definition of metrosexual but I'm certainly confused as to which FPS characters you're referring to. The main character, or rather the terrible voice actor just blurting out profanity in place of a well thought out conversation isn't really a good substitute imo. But hey, AT LEAST HE'S NOT ONE OF THOSE METRO PANSIES RIGHT?! :p

Lol! :D

I was actually referring to most gaming heroes, as opposed to purely FPS ones. Although I may be biased, it seems that the trend is to have the appealing generic everyman, which Duke is the polar opposite of. That was what made the game feel a bit fresher.

No denying that as a whole, DNF is lacking. Still was a great old-school throwback when it clicked - which for me was often :)

I think this is more of a nostalgic nod to the fans of the older games, I never played them so I'm probably missing the point.

It got bad reviews because of the expectations.

I agree with 7/10, I enjoyed it and had a giggle then sold it on but when you compare this to other Duke games its not the best. Time to Kill was awesome!

When you consider the amount of dev time spent on this game and the expectations that come with Duke then I can easy understand the critics.

It was ok, I'd give it 5.5 / 10. Lots of mistakes, bugs, linear game play which can't take the gloss of some of the better moments, namely Dukes one liners.

it's one of those games where you have to play as it's part of gaming history, but you'd expect a better game after all those years making it.
