Dump Valves

they will laugh even harder when you tell them how much you are paying for insurance, if you can get insurance at all.

Don't bother, your wasting your time.

So you're doing it to show off and for no other reason? I trust you'd do chassis/handling upgrades too...

reminds me of my mate who spend £750 live mapping his seat arosa 1.4 tdi to 110 bhp, didn't touch the brakes... burnt them out with 5 miles.

i've just seen your 17

Which means your insurers will stretch your **** so far you'll be able to fit the car in. That sort of mod adds loads to the cars of old men like me, never mind youngsters.

As for the basic idea? Let's see: no grip on those silly tyres, inadequate brakes, an engine that will probably blow something up quite quickly, etc. Seems like a fun idea to me.

How much would i be expecting to pay if i need to get the turbo, dump valves and then get someone else to install them?

It would be going on to a 1997 Ford Ka 1.3

Dump valves? How many are you hoping to fit?! lmao.

Sadly, its not that simple. Have a read up on turbo conversions to see whats involved.
You'd need aftermarket engine management for the fueling, this would involve getting it mapped on a rolling road, you'd need custom exhaust manifold so the turbo can be mounted, not forgetting actuator etc. You'd need to lower the compression ratio, and if you're planning on running much boost at all you'd have to uprate the internals to handle the extra stress/pressure.
Fuel pump would probably need changing to provide increased fueling, possibly as well as the injectors (depending on their max flow rates and whats required)

You're talking thousands to do this properly, and then as you're only 17 you'll never get insured on it, and even if you did, you'd crash it long before you got to show off to your mates in it :p :D

Instead, why don't you get a nice set of wheels on it and upgrade the handling with a full suspension kit?

You can get fake d/v's off the famous auction site and save yourself a lot of hassle whilst still being super l33t.

Why not get some Nos? Or even better, another 1.3 engine in the boot and a 4x4 conversion?

LOL don't ever turbo a Ford KA. Probably one of the stupidest ideas ever. How would you ever have £2500 lying around to turbo that?! (then you'd need all the other components to make it actually driveable and not stupidly dangerous!) The chassis wouldn't handle the power, the brakes would overheat and would not be good at all, you'd totally destroy the engine after a while and suspension would need to be upgraded seriously... Turbo'ing a car is hardly an easy thing to do - and if you get it done, it requires a lot more upkeep.

Wait a couple of years then buy a 2ltr+ and be happy.

Not to mention a 17yr old in a turbo'd car...LOL - i'd give it a month before you landed in a ditch or a tree.

BSM taught me in a turbo diesel car

anyway i only got 3 minors, so I'm not an un-confident driver :)

also, it sort of was a joke question, however had it been feasible then i definitely would have done it :p It was more of a question to get me an idea of what sort of cost it is to install dump valves on a car in general

The amount it would cost you to convert it, insure it etc. you might aswell just buy a quick ish car that's actually good in the first place.

Could probably get a non turbo MR2 or something.

dont do it because
1. the ford ka has 59hp (iirc that is) so its still gonna be slow even with a turbo
2. its a girls car
3. you wont get insurance for a realistic price
4. putting a turbo on an engine that isnt designed for a turbo is very very expensive, and if you don't do it properly then the engine will not last very long at all.
5. would make you a chav, and everyone hates chavs
6. just please dont do it.....

I'm 17 too mate, and I know its tempting sometime to think of all the wonderful things you could do to a slow first car to make it quick(er), its just not worth it at all.

Sure, spend a bit of money making it look smart and maybe some handling tweeks, but its best to leave it fairly standard so you can sell it for a good price in 2-3 years and get something a bit more tasty.
