The whole game is pretty elitist at this stage unfortunately, it's one of the reasons I'm not playing at the moment.
God help you if it's actually your first time levelling to 20, and don't know exactly what to expect at every stage of every dungeon, and your build isn't a recognised one.
This is pretty much me to be honest, I am very new to the game still (only been playing a couple of months give or take a bit) and I still don't have a toon at level 20 or higher (highest is 16 right now). I don't know the ins and outs of a ducks bum on the tons of quests but I play for fun and many people take this game way way WAY to seriously.
Wizards are hard to play for people new to the game (I know from experience as I have a lvl 11 Wizard atm) there is simply so much to take into consideration when gearing one that it gives me headache most of the time. I have a Ranger/Rogue build going atm which is pretty fun and fairly straight forward so far (Arcane Archer with traps and locks = win!) and recently started a Monk just for the giggles and something to mess with.
Overall though the big thing I think is finding the right sort of people to play with and if you can do that then you have won 80% of the battle and the rest will come with time, practice and patience.
Anybody reading this and are thinking of starting to play this game I recommend you start with a fighter since they are the easiest of classes to play overall so will ease you in to the game without baffling you too much
