DVI port not working on 560ti

I have a Asus GeForce GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1024MB GDDR5 that I got from Overclockers last month. I have just tried to hook up a second monitor to find that one of the DVI ports seems to be faulty.

There are 3 ports. 2 DVI's and an HDMI.

The DVI port on the left will only output to VGA for some reason. The other one works fine.

Have tested the following:

- Rolled back to old drivers
- Taken out the card and put it back in
- Different DVI cables
- Tested going back to my old 260 to try both ports (both worked 100% fine)

The dodgy port WILL display using a DVI to VGA cable. It won't using a DVI to DVI or DVI to HDMI, either when used alone nor as a secondary monitor. The cables work fine as they display with no problems when using the other port.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I can attempt to try and get it working, or am I going to have to send this back?

Shot in the dark but the second DVI socket might share its electronics with the HDMI port...is there a jumper or something to change which one is enabled? Or maybe it's auto-sensing and only works if nothing is plugged into the HDMI port?

There's no visible jumper that I can see, but it doesn't work when nothing is plugged in to the HDMI port anyway.

I've tested it using only the DVI port, and nothing in either of the other two, and it won't work. If I switch the cable to use the other DVI port it works fine.

hey, i have exactly the same problem.

Asus GeForce GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1024MB GDDR5 given to me for xmas. setup it up no problem, put a dell 27" on one dvi port, detected no problem. plugged a 2nd 24" dell into the other dvi port using a dvi cable and it wouldnt detect. Got it working using a vga cable and a vga to dvi converter to plug into the back of the 560. was there ever a solution to this? Gonna google like crazy now

here is what i found:

"all is perfectly OK with your card, just unexpected for you. Dual-DVI means that you can have only one output device on two DVI ports, two (both) ports used for single minitor with exra-high resolution, when single DVI-bandwidth is not enouhg

If you want to have two outputs, you have:

use HDMI port of this card in addition to DVI

or

add second card and use it's DVI

or

replace card and find DVI+VGA or 2 independent DVI output

Results (some...) of quicksearch

Gainward GeForce GTX560 GS (DVI-I + VGA)
Gainward GeForce GTX560Ti Phantom (DVI-I + DVI-D + VGA)"

seems its to be expected.

@ Mana

What you've found suggests that you can only use one of the DVI connectors as DVI if using the bandwidth of dual link DVI such as a connecting it to a 2560x1440 or 120Hz monitor.

If using two 1080p 60Hz monitors, for example, both DVI connectors should be able to be used as DVI.

yes makes sense, one monitor is at 2560x1440 and the other one i have to use with a vga cable at 1920x1200.

If i got another 27" monitor i could use a vga cable to get 2560x1440 right?

I think the maximum supported resolution using VGA is 2048x1536 so probably not.

ok so i will have to go sli to get another 27" running at max res. if i go this way it can be on the dvi output of the 2nd card as well. damn thats an expensive option. prolly have to wait and save for a few months.
