Yes, DX10 hasn't been released but DX9 is dead. In the meantime I shall be running all my games in OpenGL whether they want to or not.

behold the power of SHADER MODEL 4.0 :D

And its as of now, utterly useless features :D

Seriously though, dx9 is far from dead, it will live on for quite some time to come, in both games and desktop.
Only untill q3/4 of next year will we see it begin phase out when the dx10/sm4 integrated chipsets from both intel and nvidia are on the market and shipping.

However, as we have never had so much of an overhaul before i am unable to say how fast it is to be adopted, in theory and internal testing it has proved to be much faster than dx9 and much easier to code, software wise, so its best to see what comes. :)

Looks like with 8800 dropping....is DX 9 finally dead?

There isn't even a DX10 game out......and there isn't even a mainstream DX10 card available. DX9 has got another year left in it, no problems.

yer why did you think dx10 was dead
techniqually its the new era of steam proccessors gone have the pipelines etc
dx10 is just an add on for the 8800gtx card

i dunno call of duty 2 even scaled all the way back to dx7 so i rekon dx9 will be around for a very long time. and if vista is not adopted as fast as the ps3 sold out then dx9 will be around for a very long time.

Please proof read and/or make sure your posts make sense, many of them don't.

Cyber-Mav, Dx7 needs a headstone and fast, i don't know about you but im getting tired of old lame tech hanging around and holding everything back.

Problem is, you look at the Valve survey results of their users hardware and theres still tonnes of users with friggin Geforce 4 MXs..

sorry if this is a daft Q but will dx10 games play on DX9 cards ?
i'm thinking of an upgrade but i'm thinking maybe its a bit of a silly time to do it with DX10 looming large.

If you are looking to get a new card then just don't waste your money on a DX9 card now.

Not with the prices of DX 10 cards out.

If you are spending in te region of 200 on gfx you would have to be pretty silly to get a DX9 card when 8800 GTS can be had for just a few quid more.
