Perhaps, but why would easy innocently start a discussion on whether DX9 was dead, when DX10 hasn't even been released!

Well it was really geared towards hardware TBH.

DX 10 cards have been released and I feel that DX 9 hardware will vanish and shrink sooner than we think.

DX 10 cards have dropped in price pretty quickly making the DX 9 counterparts nothing more than pointless in the top end GFX sector.

DX10 will be like SM3 again. All the hype by people who just spent a packet on them but the second gen cards will be far better :p

Or to have faster DX9 performance.

I never expected the G80 to be anywhere near as fast as this, so it was nice. Everyone knows that second gen cards will be faster, but then 3rd gen ones will be quicker still - so why update at all?

yup exactly :D poor easy :o

Stupid comment alert. He knew this before buying it..so why is he poor? Is he not enjoying DX9 games at even higher FPS? Oblivion for one was unplayable at max settings on my X1800XT at 1680*1050, now it is.

i suppose you could say the g80's atm are a waste of money as you said about spending 200+ on a dx9 card, seen as when all the decent dx10 games drop the g80 will be way out its depth :D :p

I highly doubt that.

which are for enthusiasts only. ie, <10% of people who game on a pc. that good old steam survey is a good indication of this. It'll still be quiet a while before dx 9 cards are phased out i believe:)

but....whatever. r600, all things being well, is mine.

I would think so, there are a large amount of people still using older graphics cards so it wouldn't make sense for the gaming companies to release a game for the 27 8800GTX owners worldwide! ;)

Shhh don't interupt the 'preacher'

I just bought a Radeon X1950Pro!! Lol your a gOod one to talk about wasting money!
So 'when' will that be? Hmm may have to buy a 128-bit CPU to future-proof my rig . . . .Thats right, the key word there is 'Hype'

Funny thread! :D

The x1950 pro is hardly a top end card and offer good value for the money.

However if wanting a top end card whos goona buy a DX 9 one?

fact of the matter is i will be buying a next gen card in 2007 (R600), will i buy it for DX10, no. Ill buy it for the blistering DX9 performance with the DX10 feature being a nice little extra, as im sure 90% of G80 owners bought the card for blistering DX9 performance and not for the DX10 feature, so how can you say dx9 is dead, is it hell, have a word with yourself mate :D, as soon as the third gen cards come i think we then can say dx9 is dead.

At this point thats the best reason to buy a G80, because it offers the best DX9 performance.

If I had a 8800GTX installed I am pretty sure I wouldn't be 'wasting' any time on these forums but instead enjoying it.

Do the stream processors improve the look of the overclockers.co.uk forums? ;)

I think it will be sooner,

when the 8600 GT comes out for around 150

whos gonna buy a dx9 x1950 pro?

like me, i stil lhave a geforce 4 mx, but im getting a DX10 card very soon.
Now why would you do that? Id wait until Crysis has gone gold before ordering any new rig of sorts.. and that has been my plan for the last year n a half..

I don't agree with all this "ready to sell" stuff or that DX9 is dead. If you're spending £200+ on a card it may as well be a GTS. When the Geforce 3 was launched it was hardly any quicker than the Geforce 2 ultra. This time it's different. From what I've read a lot of DX10 is improving efficiency of DX9, so I can't see it performing that poorly to be honest.

So now I cannot browse the web, instead I have to have a game in my startup folder and use my PC for nothing else? Great comment.

I do enjoy it and the 8800 GTX will only improve with new drivers etc..

I dont talk on the froums on my main PC.

I forum on my laptop.

That runs vista business edition.
It has a ATI 7500 32mb card in it ;)

But Hardware and Software are inextricably linked, one can't exist without the other, therefore until there is any support for DX10, the DX10 sticker on every single 8800GTX & GTS is utterly worthless.
This was never a discussion about DX9 cards' place in the graphics card market, if it was you would jave said so, but about whether DX9 was now redundant due to the imminence of DX10, which it isnt.

fact is DX9 has until the end of 07 start of 08 after that it will be showing its aging it all depends on the DX10 games, which most have been delayed till the end of 07-08

someone who wants to spend his xmas gaming @ 1920x1200 and cant wait another 2-3 months for a £135 quid part . .

Easy, if you can manage to maintain a rig with cutting edge components then thats gOod for you, I hope you are enjoying it all, but you seem to have a habit of 'poo-poo'ing' on hardware that you have played with already, this is your one and only mistake my friend.

Just remember what its like the first time you unwrapped some new kit and install it, well thats the same for everyone. WHat you seem to be doing on a regular basis is buying the hardware early, playing with it, telling everyone on these forums how great it is, but by the time the average forum member is able to get his hands on the 'shiney' you are saying its old tech and how this new £££££ part is soo much better?

Also most of us are fairly 'switched on' about what is happening on the hardware scene, however we don't all have the time and money to keep right on the bleeding edge, each to their own etc! :)
