DX11 will be Vista/Windows 7 only anyway, so might as well upgrade sooner rather than later.

DX11 won't be out until at least 2009 anyway so it's not really something to get worked up over. Most people here would've changed graphics cards at least twice by that time.

Hello Seldarine, are you referring to "file transfer speeds"? If so, since Windows Vista service pack 1, I was unaware that it was still such a big issue that you can label Windows Vista a disaster based on it.... :)

You may be unaware, but have you actually tested it ?

As far as im aware with SP1 file transfers were speeded up by something like 15 to 25% depending on the situation. They were something like 100% slower than on XP to begin with.

Slower than that. I have both and my vista is SP1 now. It has improved things but still a joke.

Give me dos anyday :)

how come say Half Life 1 runs tons better in opengl than directx, is it just loads more efficient?

Gogo, xcopy :)

On topic, why bother with DX11 anyway? We all know Assassin's Creed III will be patched up to remove 11.1 performance features :p

but I thought NVIDIA and ATI are going to be dead and everyone will be using microsoft LOLabee chips by then ?
Errrrr, do you actually think Larabee is going to have a game-worthy GPU?

In fact do you think it's even been announced as such, or even remotely hinted as such?

Well my sentance had sarcastic undertones :P but aparently the debut larabee chip is going to be a 45nm part with 32 remodeled P5 cores ( pentium 2 ) that aparently will produce aprox 4 petaflop floating point performance. If im correct that will be about twice as powerfull as the upcoming 4870X2.

So if larabee came out right now it would be awesome, but in 2 years I am sure NVIDIA and ATI cards will be far more than double thier current performance.

Vista is a disaster is it and here i have been using it for over a year with zero problems and actually finding my system more stable then it was under xp how stupid do i feel now finding out from someone that it is so bad i will uninstall it immediately .

Theoretical performance yes, its performance doing graphics work won't come close.

It'll probably be as powerful as your average onboard graphics chip.

Yes, they are saying it will crush ATI and nVidia, now do I think it will be worthy, that is a different question, I think it will be dire.

Total agree. Back to Dos 6.0 for you then. :p

Well I must admit that with Vista, as with most new shiny things the general consumer public is more than happy and uses marketing hype and shiny UI to base thier views rather than actual performance facts and figures.

Vista has lots its shiny new feeling along time ago as it's 1.5yrs old now. fact is drivers are now at a level where stability and performance can be realised in Vista general usage performance and memory management.

Do you have a source for Intel saying this?

I am sure they mean it'll crush their integrated chips, or at best the low-end graphics cards.

OH FFS!

I was about to buy a 4870x2 as soon as they came out.
No flaming point now if it's gonna be old tech in a few months.

Good old macroshaft, messing it up for everyone again.

I used to think Vista was rubbish. And then I tried it for the fifth time and actually decided I quite liked it.

It's a step forward from XP in some areas, a step backward in others.

But anyway, yeah, DX11....excuse me, have we actually seen a single decent DX10 game yet? No. And all the DX10 games look nearly as good under DX9. M$ can get lost, and if they roll DX11 out with Windows 7, Linux is going to take over the world.
