DX12 CPU Performance Leaked, Way Faster Than DX11 – Threading Model Resembles AMD’s Mantle

I didnt say that *no* developer would use mantle without being paid, i'm saying it just doesnt make financial sense to when the target audience is less than 20% of your customer base the likely "extra" sales from mantle support is unlikely to cover the development costs, so it doesnt make sense to do so... that doesnt automatically mean that no one not being paid by AMD will support it, but it makes it a lot less likely than if AMD had stronger market share and better backwards compatibility

what is the % target audience of dx12 then?
what nvidia/AMD GPUs will support it?
What OS will be supported/locked out?
just saying its not as if dx12 is going to launch will a huge catalog of games and support from the start. How long was it before dx10/11 became the norm?

Is that meant to be a joke? Says the locked down stuff Nvidia comes up with. At Least mantle was open for anyone to use. You can't even have AMD in the system if you want to use anything nvidia feature wise. Nvdia is the worst for driving a divide among GPU owners.

Also good luck when DX12 is here, lets see all your beautiful games that will be running DX12!

I hope all the haters die a quick death and that goes on both sides cos it's pathetic really!

You talk about jokes... Mantle is (currently) less open for anyone to use than GameWorks and nVidia are even (finally) divesting many PhysX features into Flex with DirectCompute paths.

EDIT: Not to discount the contribution Mantle is making in pushing the GameWorks stuff into feasibility but I don't think a lot of people understand the implications of what GameWorks is doing - pushing lighting/shadowing and physics techniques, etc. forward beyond what most of the mainstream and smaller studios could manage while making it easy for them to implement into their work - stuff that otherwise we probably wouldn't at this level of capability see in use in actual games for another 4-5 years.

I love how deluded you are.

All who's DX 12 games, you speak like they belong to someone?

This...
Nvidia are the worst for this.. Amd have mantle amd it's only locked to amd because nvidia choose so... Everything else amd put into games is open for both sides to use.

I wonder what would happen if people who actually knew what they were talking about posted here.

Of course they would be NDA'd on a lot of things, but many silly arguments would not get started. Thracks & Huddy have accounts here but I don't blame them for keeping schtum most of the time.

Er... and just how did Nvidia do that, did they hold a gun to AMD's head and say do it or else.

By your reckoning it would be just as valid me saying that PhysX is only locked to Nvidia because AMD choose so.

At the moment Mantle is locked to AMD because AMD have decided that is the case, they have said they will open it up and when they do it will no longer be locked to AMD but please don't try and say it is Nvidia's fault.

As for everything else AMD put into games, well yes of course if you say so

Obviously if MS lock DX12 to win10 it will be slow on user adoption, though i think developers will be quicker to support it, and if they hit any hurdles MS have massively bigger coffers to promote dx12 (they also have a product to promote so if they can drive dx12 adoption they also drive windows10 adoption)

The last time someone with an API went up against DX they resoundly lost

The fact that AMD were forced to print a retraction, i have hope that it wont be locked to win10

The forum wouldn't have any posts in them if that was the case, people like me would have to **** off to GD.

Nobody should give a rats ass about where it came from and who made it and what it resembles as long as it works and lowers CPU overheads in games. Needing less power can only be a good thing.

It was partially a joke but your response is a little excessive and something 12 year olds say on chat in BF games. I don't actually wish anyone a quick death because of their choice of GPU but hey ho :D

Yea the hoping haters die a quick death is quite an excessive comment, but i was just taking a quote from your comment and placing in front of the my haters comment to express how i find it's quite generally annoying to see people from both sides hating on advancements and progression day to day.

I guess i just got quite wound up reading through all the crap in this thread as well as the crap everyday when you actually just want to see some information not people having tiffs with each other over their favorite brand/make of GPU. Should really point out i don't wish anyones death lol. Should probably watch what i put next time. My apologies!

Who would not chip in when the op reads dx12 resembles mantle, like hah dx12 is copying mantle when in fact mantle copied dx, now anything low level will have come from amd to some people.:(
