Dying Light 2 PC Tech Review

It's basically killing gpus and consoles, above is the PS5 and Xbox review too.. So gives people an idea how demanding this game is on gpus and consoles..

PS5 and Xbox can't do native 4k at the highest resolution setting with no RT they are able to basically do 30FPS with no RT and for RT on the resolution is 1080p.. seems we need to wait for PS5 Pro and the new XBOX updated version to get even 60FPS with RT off and higher than 1080p.. The consoles that sold 8K and 120FPS.. not looking good for games with RT on consoles or AMD GPUS. Seems DLSS and FSR are going to be our saviours going forward.

"RT off looks better"

"RT makes no difference"

"dlss has motion issues"

"RT overdone"

:p

Game looks superb with RT on, improves the overall look of objects/textures very nicely too, sadly with it off, it looks crap and like a ps3/4 game :o

Yup as soon as we seen the consoles only being able to do 2 out of the 7 RT effects and only at 1080P 30fps, you just knew it was going to be bad for full desktop RDNA 2 when those extra effects were thrown at them cards, pcgamershardware did predict this way back as well as other sites:

https://www.pcgameshardware.de/Rayt...cials/ART-Mark-Raytracing-Benchmarks-1371125/

This is just yet another title where visual settings are having to be sacrificed and makes RDNA 2 longevity very questionable compared to ampere as to what is going to happen once the console refreshes come out and developers start to really push RT, AMD have confirmed RDNA 3 for this year....

Probably worth bringing this thread back up and posting there instead though to keep this thread for DL 2

wow RT looks great, after watching that DF video its clear why this game hits GPUs so hard - it has 7 different RT effects and as a package they create what is the best looking RT in any game so far

RT or not I can not wait to play this game. Loved the first one put in so meny hours. Ultra 4k i'll be happy RT isn't the be all to make you not want to play the game. Sure its really next gen but I wont take the performance hit for it.

I've taken some RT comparison screens from DF
In all images, left is RT OFF, right is RT ON

That second pic in particular is incredible.

Should be noted when fullscreen for the last pic, the darkness isn't as pitch black as it looks in the screenshot, suspect in game away from all the youtube compression, clarity will be further improved too.

That's not how it's supposed to look (esp. last picture w/ the car). The reason it's so dark is because it's fed too few rays (so light can't bounce around to illuminate) & the camera is underexposed. In reality it would be closer to this:

Just LOL at trying to use a real photograph like the above to say how that scene should look. There's no overhang on that building and the sun isn't reflecting off the structure on the left in the dying light scene for a start...

That's nearly 4K territory with his 1080p vs 4k security camera images lmao.

Might as well post this here also seeing some linking threads.

O some users

Since when has graphics even been the sole reason to PLAY a game? Like honestly how did we ever manage to reach this point in gaming if the graphics are the only reason to PLAY?

Think before you post

Am very sure us with the RT performance will still enjoy the game as much as the next person along playing on console or playing with a RTX card.

God dam just enjoy the game tomorrow night I know I will be 4 player co-op with cold cronavirus in the fridge.

The most common RT dGPU in the top10 list on Steam is an RTX2060 IIRC,and with so many gamers not being able to buy a new dGPU it makes me wonder how many will run this with RT on. Even in the top 20 on Steam,non-RT capable dGPUs make up 2/3 of the list, and Turing just over half of the RT capable dGPUs.

So the funny thing is I expect many PC gamers will be running games such as Dying Light without RT,or with reduced RT settings on lower end Turing dGPUs or on a console. Looking at the Cyberpunk 2077 RT figures,RDNA2 is broadly similar to the Turing dGPUs upto the RTX2080/RTX2080 Super. There are still more Turing based dGPUs on Steam than Ampere based ones.

Even amongst my fairly diverse group of gaming mates(none of which are PCMR enthusiasts),many don't have RT capable dGPUs,and the few that do have one use nothing faster than an RTX3060TI/RX6600XT class dGPU. The lack of dGPUs availability and the overpricing has severely crimped many people's upgrades in 2021.

It's really going to be a problem going forward,if we want to push RT forward if the availability of decent enough RT capable dGPUs doesn't improve. It will also be another issue once current Ampere/RDNA2/Turing owners want to upgrade next year.Miners!

The fact you can run RT in anyway is actually an achievement on its own with the current dGPU crisis.

It reminds me of old the enthusiasts on forums who thought everyone running Crysis had dual 8800GTS 512MB/8800GTX 768MB cards. I knew so many who ran it on cards which would make people here cry! :D
