Dyslexia

Unfortunately its the intelligent ones that arn't doubting the existance.

What is interesting and the intelligent debaters will already know this, is that on the second picture there is NO EVIDENCE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO READ.
OMG - surely she mustn't have dyslexia then :)

I too have also been diagnosed with dyslexia but none of it involves reading, writing, spelling or speed.

I often make mistakes in my posts and usually ninja edit them out, but due to the title of this thread I don't see the point tbh. (Only made one error in an earlier post that I can see as I usually read through my posts numerous times before posting the thing).

Generally I've given up trying to argue with some of the morons posting in this thread who aren't dyslexic, don't understand it, so they think that it can't exist. That must be true yeah, try jumping off a building saying mavity doesn't exist...
I'm a little lost! And I don't quite get the analogy either.

What are you trying to say?

Good call. Mine is differnt because my main problem is that my eyes altinate so my assesment is bit differnt where speed is taken into account.

To be honest, they wont be coming back. Before the intelegent people were out numbers. But now they will run away like the cowards they are rather then face up to the truth.

Thought some of the intelligent debaters might appreciate what a bit of a 28 dyslexia report looks like -

Just to let you know, since you want to keep the name anonymous, you've missed out erasing the name in sections A-2 ("During this period...") and C-2 (Under anti-virus). :)

What are you trying to say?

When you spend a life of having people constatly pic on your spelling and telling you your dumb for it or making huge deal out of it. You get very fed up and irrated by it all. I imagin a lot of dyslexics get to the stage where they dont care about using spell checkers and correcting everything just to keep some stuck up guy happy on his high hourse.

In other threads i do because im fed up of the extra attenchen where people don't read what i have to say but instead point out my flaws. Its sad. But here were they are all now telling us it doesn't exist we just don't care about correcting it for the same people who complain at us for spelling badly.

Oi, not everyone who can spell is a complete <insert word of choice here>! :p

I ment that the people who beleived it existed were being outnumbered by the incompetent people saying it didn't. It just so happened the people saying it existed were also the dyslexics. Though i dunno aboiut you.

:EDIT:

Oh yes they will.
One poster 'Knows all about it' even though he thinks it's all about reading books.

Haha yeah but I bet you money he wont post here he knows hes wrong and knows he will be shot down and people will tell him they are disgusted like they have done in few posts above.

Ahhh, I see! Personally, I reckon your best bet would be to try to spell correctly wherever possible. On the one hand: it's a common courtesy to those reading your words, and on the other: it's good to familiarise yourself with words you often get wrong.

For instance, I'm absolutely certain my spelling has improved ever since firefox got an inbuilt spell-checker. It serves as a handy tap on the shoulder when I get things wrong!

It's not just about familarizing words i get wrong though. A dyslexic can know a word and spell it 3/4 differnt ways in the same paragraph. It just happens. No matter how much i try and change that i cant. The firefox thing is great i know i can change every speling mistake ive made here and i see them all poping up. But why should i ahve to? Why should it make me any less a person for having a medical condidtion that makes me spell these words wrong. Not a single word here you cant understand, yet they will rip into me for it. Just shows how low a person they are.

When someone compalins at my spelling it makes me far less inclinded to change for them. Because i know damn well gtive me a page of maths and ill have done it in half the time they can and then ill be able to point out every singel mistake they made, if they can do any of it.

I don't 100% agree with that. I try as much as possible to make my emails and stuff as correct as they can be, just because I'd accurate in whatever I do. Yeah it takes more time and Outlook's spell checker gets a hammering :p but it's definitely worth doing. After a while I think the sheer repetition makes you hesitate and think for a second longer about what your about to do wrong.

Anything formal i will strive to make it neat and well spelt. But this is a casual forum, i just want to come here and say my peice. I dont want to have to think about every word and i shouldn't need to.

We should strive for a new punishable rule! Ban those who insesintly nit pick spelling lol.

As I mentioned, I think it's common courtesy, and I don't think the practice could possibly hurt.

But each to their own!

I gave up on common courtesy when i relised its not given back by many people.

We can't handle the truth! :(:D

Well you should at least be trying for those people you do find courteous! But I also think making a conscious effort to spell words correctly can only help your situation.

I think I might be flogging a dead horse here!

Do you happen to live in colchester by any chance dirtydog.

Nah i agree with you.

Unfortunately it's the grateful ones that never say anything. I spell a lot of things wrong but luckily either google chrome picks them up or I do. I'm a bit of a personal grammar nazi, but I'd never try to enforce it on someone else, unless their post really was illegible. I sometimes think the complainers should learn to read better, rather than argue with the poster. If I can read it, you can. It's not hard to realise when someone has missed a letter out, or swapped a couple of letters around.

A good friend of mine is dislexic, and the college she is currently at are not helping her. She is a bright girl and wants to go far and she wants to go into the field of social work, but at the moment the dislexia is holding her back as she has trouble with reading words, remembering things and spelling.
Is there anywhere she can go for help so she can try and get around her dislexia so she can pass the courses she needs to get the job she wants?
Also how does she go about getting tested for the type of dislexia she has?

I work in a learner services in a college local to me and she should able to request additional support in the class room by talking to her tutor.

Tbh it should have been picked up when she applied!

O to those people that said that we get all these free stuff thrown at us and its unfair. My report is going to cost me £500. Further more they want me to do it again for the final year of uni as well.

Yeah and all im going to get is some book tokens, extra time and bigger print. But without the extra time and bigger print ill servearly under achieve. Its disgusting smokers and fat people get nhs free care but i have to pay up to £1000 to get an education.

O and another thing to those that say such disabilities dont exist. My alternating eyes can easily be proven. Put special glasses on me and I see things alternate colours.
