i have a customer and her esystem 3086 has broken. the rj45 connector at rear on it has come loose and is not operational at all.

the laptop has internal wlan but it does not have a antenna.

just wanted to know , is the antenna internal on wlan enabled laptops? as her only hope is to buy a w router to be able to connect to the internet.

it doesn't even have a pcmcia slot.

thanks

should be internal mate.

Never seen a laptop with a wireless card built in that you had to plug an antenna into.

Hope thats of some help lol

Every laptop i've seen that has built in wifi has a built in internal antenna that's usually plugged via a long cable that goes ends up somwhere behind the LCD. I can't imagine that it was solid with built in wifi without the antenna connected to it, have you tried turining the wifi on? Most laptops have a switch on the front or sides that enables/disables the wireless, or maybe it's disabled in device manager?

The wifi on/off button on the 3086 is the left hand button of the 3 small buttons next to the Power button.

I don't think there's an indicator light to show if it's on or off, but just have the Wireless Networks window open and refresh the list after pressing the button.

thanks guys, very helpful , i shall be seeing her tomorrow and i will recommend she go with the w router.

thanks again

If it has USB ports you could get a USB ethernet adapter, or failing that a USB wireless adapter.
