Hoping you guys can help me. I've got an E2160 running on an XFX 650i mobo and its been running fine for a few months, but i noticed tonight that only 1 core is being used? CPU-Z says 1 core and 1 thread, and task manager only has 1 graph for cpu usage. Have any of you got any ideas? Im lost

Ta

Thats odd. What does it show in device manager? should show 2 lines both saying "Intel pentium e2160...." etc

Did you use that HDD for a previous chip? If so make sure that all your old drivers are gone.

still cant figure out whats goin on, im thinking a duff chip. Anyone else got n e ideas what else to try, before i RMA it?
thanks

Don't know if this may be of any help, try resetting the CMOS / BIOS or remove the chip and re-insert and reboot it may come up with new chip found load the defaults then boot into windows.

When I removed the cpu from my media center and re-inserted it the BIOS detected it as new cpu.

My bios has an an option to enable/disbale multi-core's. Have a look if you have anything like that

I think at this point i would try installing windows on a spare HD or partition just to see if it shows both cores. If it did work then either use that install or re-install on your main drive. If it doesn't work then try and borrow a CPU off someone or maybe even buy one. If you buy a 2nd hand CPU for a good price then there's no reason why you couldn't sell it on for the same amount.

If the new install of windows did show both cores then you know it was a software problem and you could spend time trying to fix your current windows install. Try update CPU driver from task manager to see if that changes anything
