Hi Guys.

I know it's no real contest. Was just wondering, If I overclock the E2160 to say..3Ghz (Lets just say it does that speed for now) will the E4400 still be fast @ stock or will I need to over clock it? Does the E4400 overclock well?

Thanks all! :D

The E6300 only overclocks well if you have a very good mobo that's capable of high fsb. If you don't then I'd go for an E2140/2160.

As for the difference between 1mb & 2mb L2 at the same frequency see my thread in my sig.

Have a look at my review in sig, I compared an e2160 against an e6600, same multi, same fsb, same everything apart from the cache on the chip. Might help and answer some questions.

edit: Beaten to the "see the thread in my sig" by Steve258! ;) His review is very good, and a wide range of comparisons (both gaming and apps).

Well I have both chips. Just wondered which would be faster really. I am using the E2140 in this PC at the moment. Seems quick. Have not done any overclocking. My motherboard supports up to 1066 FSB. :) (However I have DDR 2 667 memory installed)

At the same speed, the e6300 will be faster as it will have a higher fsb and more cache. However, it will strain your motherboard more to get to the same speed as the e2140, with it's 8x multi, can get to.

In practical terms, it comes down which will limit your overclocking more: Your motherboard fsb (when overclocking the e6300) or the e2140?

Well I have got to 2.20Ghz on the E2140. I can't seem to get more. The system will post at 2.24Ghz, but won't boot Windows. I tried Vcore at 1.36V. So not too sure it's safe to go more..:(

667
-> 333 FSB

333 * 8 = 2664MHz on the CPU, before you need to overclock the RAM.

It must be CPU voltage, northbridge or cpu cooling. What are the temps?

I've put the E6300 in now. At 2.0Ghz. Will check temps now..Can I add you to MSN, by the way, if you don't mind?
Thank you.

Things I've noticed with E6300:

It runs hotter.
Does higher FSB with lower Ghz speed. (Compard to the E2140).
At 2.07Ghz now..:(

No problem :)

Yeah, I found the extra cache generates extra heat.
