e2160 Vs e6600 - a Melbourne720 Review

I'm on my E2160 now, managed to do 3ghz without touching volt core but it's on automatic so I dunno... Anyway seems pretty fast and stable :)

Thats a great reviews, definately clears things up for budget processers.

Anyone waiting for the E2200 coming this December 2nd? Its going to be priced the same as the current E2180 price when it comes out. So thats a multiplier of 11, at the same release price. Price cuts are also listed here. Old news but hey. :P

I suppose the trouble is when they up the multiplier, they (Intel) are realising that enthusiasts are getting more out of this chip than Intel are advertising. So they up the multiplier and sell the same chip for more money.

Maybe I'm biased but I think 9 (or 8-10) is the sweet spot.

Oooh, im building 2 pcs for christmas with the E2160 chip. I plan on seeing how far i can clock on just the stock cooler . . . One is brand new parts, the other is a rebuild from an existing pc.

I think you speak some sense, if you consider all the other factors that can hold you back at overclocking, but the higher multiplier could make things easier, or just stick a Tuniq Tower on there and throw in a 400 FSB for kicks :D

Good point, if your motherboard is holding you back (for instance some ASRock ones that only do 290MHz) then a 11x multiplier will make life much easier :)

Fantastic review - busy spec'ing up a rig for a mate, and was being lured in by a cheap (£95) e6700. Given the price of the e2180s and their nice FSB friendly 10x multi, I know what I'll suggest now :) That extra £40 will definitely be better used elsewhere (along with the saving on the 8800GT !)

Great spot on the OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit as well - will definitely be adding 2 of those to the mix.

Liked the email to intel - especially the way they assume that anyone who writes to them must be having problems :p

"No really - everything IS bon!"

Another 5 Stars from me, free of charge, just as long as you promise to do as good a job when you get a well deserved q6600 ;)

Cheers cavemanoc

One of my hard drives just gave up yesterday, so I'm getting the 'it's time for a big upgrade feeling' :)

Only thing that puts me off a quad at the moment is the unclockability with a 680i, so it will have to be a quad + IP35 Pro (or something like that).

Good work, and great that its in house i.e. Ocuker members own work :D

The 680i can be volt modded, this helps with the vdroop leaving the board more stable for Quad iirc. Will see if I can get a link.

Some board versions may also need bios updated as the board will only see two cores otherwise.

Wow, I am half tempted to bay the e6600 and get a e2180!
I only really use the PC for games (BF2142, Crysis an TF2 mostly), surfing, pictures and the very rare DVD encode, and to be honest, its so rare it does not really matter if it takes longer!
And a x10 multi under water is very tempting !
