Howdy :)

During load, one core is around 4C higher than the other - can you remove the IHS from C2Ds, and would anyone recommend it?

Using a waterblock, so shouldn't be a problem getting contact between the cores and the sink :)
 
pfft.. I can't leave stuff alone, I like to tinker :D

and then cry when it inevitably breaks :/

I think I read somewhere that the IHS of the E2*** chips can be removed, unlike the other C2D IHS's which are soldered on.
 
e4300 is reported to have a removable IHS. I believe the more powerful chips than the 4xxx series have a stronger connection to the IHS but the lesser chips have a removable IHS.

It has a higher failure rate for removal than the Athlons. From a small sample of accounts I've read about a 25% success rate.
