Yup then if its causing lost sleep the above would have to be the answer, removing the IHS is kinda extreme, unless you've got something like a cascade set-up.
e4300 is reported to have a removable IHS. I believe the more powerful chips than the 4xxx series have a stronger connection to the IHS but the lesser chips have a removable IHS.
It has a higher failure rate for removal than the Athlons. From a small sample of accounts I've read about a 25% success rate.
