The wii u controller is designed to be in the 'same room' as the console. when the nintendo guy was asked about the range he did not give any detials but just said it will work on the other side of a large room

They were supposed to be unveiling "Big Screen Steam" whereby for those of us with PCs/laptops plugged into the HDTV, we could navigate the entire Steam interface with a pad from the settee. Looks like that's not ready yet.
