Absolutely, the point was sound. It was the condesending kick-a-man-when-he's-down manner that I take issue with. Just unneccesarily rude.
Completely agree with the way you've put your point accross. I've saved/invested/gambled instead of going balls out toys-wise. It was sensible, and it is boring.
The really galling thing is when things go sour anyway, and you don't have the memories of racing/flying/ski-ing/skydiving/etc.
The flip side is that I haven't had to move, and I'm not faced wth having to fire-sell assets for cashflow reasons.
Sensible is a different way, and an alternative to consider when times are rough, but I wouldn't dream of being so rude and arrogant as to laugh at a guy that's had some fun and hit a bad patch.
