What's the deal with the X51 upgrade? I know nothing about oily bits, but if it needs a new engine, what are the costs involved with replacing broken bits with X51 bits?

£6000 - £8000 additional cost! Porsche more than double the price when the 997.2 cars came along.

Christ! Balls to that... What's different?

Didn't you say something about looking at X51 'headers' (what ever the hell they are) at some point?

The kit includes:-

X51 Carbon airbox, dual panel filter design.
A lot of engine head work for greater flow.
X51 manifolds
Porsche Sports exhaust
ECU Map to cater for above.

There is a lot more finer points involved and the result is a list from 355BHP upto 381BHP on 997.1 cars and a lift from 385BHP upto 408BHP on 997.2 cars.

An X51 with 200 CEL CATS can add a further 20BHP or so as the stock CATS are 600 CEL, but this voids warranty.

Absolutely, the point was sound. It was the condesending kick-a-man-when-he's-down manner that I take issue with. Just unneccesarily rude.

Completely agree with the way you've put your point accross. I've saved/invested/gambled instead of going balls out toys-wise. It was sensible, and it is boring.

The really galling thing is when things go sour anyway, and you don't have the memories of racing/flying/ski-ing/skydiving/etc.

The flip side is that I haven't had to move, and I'm not faced wth having to fire-sell assets for cashflow reasons.

Sensible is a different way, and an alternative to consider when times are rough, but I wouldn't dream of being so rude and arrogant as to laugh at a guy that's had some fun and hit a bad patch.

People that sign up to a deal that would appear to cost an extra five figures in depreciation, in the name of saving four figures on an insurance premium is a bit wtf, but E60-aside, at least Will's had some fun with his...

Agreed :)

Oh right, I didn't realise the 997.2 facelift added so much power... Does the 997.2 engine go into the 997.1 bay? Or is the gearbox etc different?

I've no idea what needs replacing for a cracked cylinder head, but at £12k, I'm guessing it's a complete new engine? If the 997.2 engine offers the same power as a 997.1 w/X51, it'd be interesting to know how much a new 997.2 engine is...
