E60 M5 Spark plugs

What will you do about the missing part of the service history when you sell the car? It's not quite a £1500 banger on which it'd have no residual effect, is it? :p

Most people who buy an M5 do not change the spark plugs themselves. If i was buying one it would make me a little wary.

Maybe I'm not clued up, but £105 on 10 spark plugs? I can't imagine it using 'special m5 powah uber million volt' spark plugs?

Tbh £100 on 10 decent plugs isn't horrific.

I wouldn't expect anyone to change the plugs on their M5 but then again I wouldn't think twice about doing the plugs on any of my own cars.

The second link has the plugs you listed in the first link , going by the picture of the new/old plugs, so it seems that they would be fine.

And also this, OEM Spark Plugs S85 - BMW#12120032273/NGK LKR8AP.

Are your cars worth £13k?

Would you buy a £13,000 car with patchy history from a guy who says 'Did it myself to save money'?

Even if you are capable of doing it yourself (I cant imagine its hard) surely the loss of value renders it pointless.

Yeh cheers forgot I had autodata too that says same

Going to change SMG and diff oil soon too

Fox wont loose any money stop panicing

Because the V10 uses an ionic current system to detect knock and misfires, I'd be wary about putting anything other than decent plugs in it.

I don't know if it would actually make much difference but you're talking about a phenomenally precise engine that's quite highly strung. I'd only put the best parts in to it.

We both know the "history" of this specific car so its going to be a pointless discussion in relation to it.

Fundamentally I would expect a car such as this and with the original value of the M5 to have had them done at a dealer. With anything more run of the mill and assuming everything added up history wise it wouldn't bother me in the slightest

YET AGAIN and example of someone with an 70K car surprised that costs don't match a 13K car. This is why 9 owner M3's are not a good idea, 5 of em will be running on Halfords plugs and Tesco Value oil.

I have enough money to go buy another 13k M5, but im not getting stung by main dealers, I dont waste my money like a sheep, bmw can do oil services and inspections just so I get the service stamp, Im a qualified mechanic can do plugs myself and reset computer

Im a qualified mechanic

Who with? :p

The point isn't whether you can do it - I'm sure you can. The point is that if you viewed two M5's, both the same price, one had full history the other had a guy saying 'BMW are a rip mate, I did the plugs and stuff myself' which one would you buy if they were otherwise the same? Everyone would buy the first one - therefore the laws of supply and demand dictate the second must be worth less.

I'd be horrified to find that a car such as a M5 had generic NGK plugs fitted. The genuine ones can be had for £17 each by the looks of it.

Even my £1k Alfa had genuine service parts & a FSH with a specialist.

But you are wasting money by NOT having BMW do it as you've now no longer got a FBSH. That is worth thousands to a buyer.
BMW won't stamp your book if when it's due a spark plug replacement you say "Oh, I did them myself so leave them please".

It does have full BMWSH and will continue to have

BMW can change the engine oil and do inspections that it, thats about £300 and they stamp the service book
