I doubt discs/pads have any space in the service book so no big deal.

Though quite why you'd take your car to VW for a service having already changed the oil is beyond me, what a strange thing to do

Nice new air freshener.

Just so they can (check) the car over for little faults, also the main drive shaft to rear was changed under VW so needs checking again, that was 1k to replace but has warranty with the main VW garage..

I do not know why the OP ever posts on here as he always 'seems' to just get ripped apart, justified or not.

I can only assume that he is feeding the usual trolls their weekly dues.

I'm sure a little Google search would have come up with the answer in the first instance or a call to a BMW dealers parts dept.

One thing to note 12k car resale <12k is going to fall into the hands of another barrel scratching punter who isn't going to give two hoots whether one car has a spark plug stamp versus one that would fall above this price bracket that has.

OP all I can say is keep the receipts for any work that you do so it's all documented so you can show what work you have undertook within certain home aptitude levels e.g. oils, brakes, filters etc that personally would rather I was not ripped off by dealer pricing if I was able to do the same job using genuine OEM parts.

So it's not really going in for a service, in fairness.

Exactly! Keep the receipts etc

Not exaclty a hard job to change some sparkplugs, and not get ripped off.

BMW's with Condition Based Servicing will tell you on iDrive when certain parts are due replacement. Presumably iDrive is now saying renew Spark Plugs.

Spark plugs arent listed as a seperate item and are tied into one of the oil services. Normally every third oil service on the petrols but might be every second on the M5. Means it will be missing at least one service stamp out of the book if BMW dont do them.

These are the items listed in the 2009 M5 manual for CBS displayed items. Engine oil, Brake pads (separate for the front and rear), Brake fluid, Vehicle check and Legally mandated in spections depending on local regulations.

I would just buy the NGK's and change them. I really wouldn't be too fussed if I went to see a car and found someone had changed their plugs, especially if there is a receipt.

BMW's plugs are NGK's. They are identical, NGK only make one quality of plug, some get boxed up for BMW the rest go to the aftermarket.

£380 is a lot of money. Who in their right mind wouldn't want to save a couple of hundred quid? I wouldn't even ask the question on here, I would just do it.

Glad you did the right thing ;)

The 2 rear plugs look a pain in the ass to change. Plus a real risk of breaking fragile bits when getting to them (fuel rails etc )

If you're going to troll the good readers of motors you could at least humour us with some more V10 exhaust notes :p

Yep, last two cylinders will leave you scratching your head I'm afraid. I think it's easier to change them from inside the car by reaching through the dash!!!! :D That price for sparkies is fine, stop being a tight ass and owning / running a car you actually can't afford to maintain.
