hi there i hope u can forgive me for my silly question but as im buying a E6300 i would like to find out what is the actual default memory speed core 2 duo runs at ddr2 6400? or ddr2 5300 pr ddr2 4200

also which motherboard should i choose i hear a lot of bad things on the ds3 thread about bios and memory ratios and fsb walls would the aus p5b deluxe be a better choice?

Stock speed is 266 MHz which corresponds to DDR2 533, also known as PC2 4200 RAM. You'll want faster rated memory if you plan on overclocking.

EDIT: P5B owners will tell you to get a P5B. DS3 owners will tell you to get a DS3. I haven't used a P5B but I have used a DS3. I found it was a joy to set up, overclock, and use. I'd recommend it. :)

thanks for the reply ill be buying 2gb of the fancy crucial 10th anniversary stuff.

the only thing i cant decide between the ds3 and the p5b is the p5b apparantly unlocked multipliers now in the latest bios.

how does the ds3 fair with moving multipliers using a E6300?

and which if the two will hit the highest fsb?

i read a few reviews which said the ds3 crapped out at around 350 while the asus went up to around 450.

it will be flashed with the latest bios too.

You may have problems running the Crucial 10th Anniversary RAM in the DS3 over 900Mhz. It uses Micron D9 RAM and the DS3 doesn't particulary like it atm. The problem may be solved early next week if the new BIOS does what it's claimed to do.

im waiting for that bios- it'll be out one day im sure! yeah watch out for the D9 and the DS3 but as cob says it shoud be fixed with the new f8 bios when gigabyte decide to release it!

It's great, but it's actually more expensive that the Geil PC6400 kit so why not buy the faster rated stuff from the outset?

I'm waiting on an overclocking report of the PC6400 OcUK Value RAM - has anyone bought that yet? It's £150 for the set (about £30/set less than Geil) and OK - it runs 5-5-5-15 rather than 4-4-4-12 but the real difference (except in SuperPi) is neglible. But the question remains - will it clock to PC7200 or PC8000 speeds like some of the Geil stuff will?
 
on my p5b-dlx,i can bench my 6300 all the way up to 3.8ghz(550fsb) at 1.51vcore with an arctic freezer 7 pro.
temps were 41-43c idle and 60 max-

science mark2 is a good quick stability test.on mine if it aint that stable,it crashes.at 1.5vcore it crashed so i upped it to 1.51v and it finished the test.

my mem is patriot pc2-7200 which was at 1100 1:1 at 2.4vmem for the above test.

btw mines a L629B405

Running E6300 + Crucial Anniversary here.
Chips been run on 2 mobo's, Abit AB9 (non pro) and Asus P5B (vanilla). Maxed the AB9 EASY on stock CPU voltage/cooling (3.15gzh) Crucial @ 450 4,4,3,8 2.06v.
P5B is a bit of a pain to overclock in all honesty, its capable of some nice FSB's though. Much of this could be due to using the vanilla board and an older bios. It does clock really nicely though. Priming @ 490 FSB atm still with stock cooler.
Crucial runs to here with ~ 2.15 or so vDimm at 4,4,3,8 timings again Memtest stable :)
Can't comment on the DS3 as I've not used it, does seem to clock similar to the P5B's though.

FWIW, the AB9 is a LOVELY board to overclock. It's really responsive and rock stable. It does suffer from a lack of vMCH however, so to push beyond ~ 430 FSB stable you'll probably need additional voltage.
