IM just wondreing if this is worth the upgrade

AMD 4200+ dual to C2D E6400

is it worth upgrading ? (i play allot of games)

thanks

I would say if you can afford it and are willing to change out the mobo, chip and possibly memory then go for it. I'm in the process of going C2D from an Opty that could do nearly 3ghz.

Hopefully it will be a decent performance boost!

Incidentally, what's the spec of the rest of your machine? That way people will really be able to tell you whether it's worthwhile!

gt

Edit: Like nickg says. If you're happy as you are then stick. I knew i could sell all my skt 939 stuff and buy into C2D for basically nothing!

Sold my DFI, Opty and OCZ Ram for just over £280 and bought an E6600, DS3 and some Geil Ram for under £300.

oh no im just speakin in terms, i know i would have to literally upgrade everything ele, its just as in other posts..im selling graphics and mobo which should bring 240-250 so i have got spare money left around for a new computer...so my upgrade would be

AMD 4200+ dual
250gb Sata
6200 geforce turbo cche (HAHAHA)
1gb ddr400 ! ! !
Asrock motherboard...(dont know what model)

To a

Intel Core2DUO E6400 2GB+250GB+nVidia 7300 512MB Gfx

or

Athlon DUAL CORE AM2 5200+ 2GB+250GB+nVidia 7300 512MB

which one ?

and what difference would it make to my machine i have now ?

thanks

Hi
Are you planning to overclock? If so go for the Core2Duo, but you need to consider better graphics if you play lots of games as you say.

I'd recommend a better graphics card than what you plan to install.

If you play a lot of games then something around 7600-7800 should be your aim.

The graphics card should give you a bigger boost that the chip but try for a comfortable middle ground.

I'd say get an e4300, cheapish mobo (asrock, 2nd hand DS3 etc), 1gb-2gb ram and a 7600gt minimum.

Check your budget and see if that lot fits in because that would show an improvement over anything with a 7300 in it!

as i say my system now is

AMD 4200+ dual
250gb Sata
6200 geforce turbo cche (HAHAHA)
1gb ddr400 ! ! !
Asrock motherboard...(dont know what model)

surely any of them other 2 systems would be a decent upgrade compared to what i allreday have

Intel Core2DUO E6400 2GB+250GB+nVidia 7300 512MB Gfx

or

Athlon DUAL CORE AM2 5200+ 2GB+250GB+nVidia 7300 512MB

why do u need another hard drive lose the hard drive and get a better graphics card as the 6200 performes the same as the 7300

with the core 2 duo u will need a new mobo and with the amd as you specing a am2 core when u have a s939 core

Get something along the lines of :

Gigabyte DS3
E6400
1gb/2gb DDR2 Ram
Nvidia 7600 onwards or maybe x1950 pro

All that would weigh in at roughly £350 + the price of the gpu, call it £450 ?

Then sell the stuff you currently have and beleive me the difference will definitely be worth it.

Exactly what I did so speaking from experience :)

Just what i thought. Get something like the above and you'll be laughing.

Cheap and very effective!

I'll just have a look on overclockers to spec you up! ;)

Quiet reasonable if you ask me!

I'll get one with a x1950pro to see how that looks! ;)

And for a measly £40 more - worth it as the x1950pro is a stonking card! ;)

If you've got the cash it may be worthwhile going for the 512mb version as a lot of the newer games will begin to use up this kind of space!

Happy shopping mate! :D

the e4300 is only 1.8ghz thought that was bad
The trick with the e4300 is that it has a higher multi than something like the e6300. That means that the mobo and memory you get won't necessarily have to clock as high! e4300's generally get to 3ghz quite easily and i've seen some at 3.2ghz+.

Bang for the buck is awesome.

Any ideas on which of those set ups you'd aim for. You wanting a good graphics card or a great one? ;) :D

This would be my suggestion:

I would personally pay the extra for the better cpu and ram, but as already stated, you could save a bit of money and get a better graphics card. Down to opinion really.

But to answer the original question - DONT BUY AM2 !
