Hi guys,

Just spec'ing up some bits for a new PC and have had these two CPUs thrown into the mix.

I was wondering which of the two chips would be the better clocker and at one clockspeed, which would give the better performance?

Obviously I'm leaning towards the E8200 due to the newer core and increased cache, but you never know :)

Cheers.

nearly 15000 posts... wow...

anyways, with clockspeeds being equal, the E8200 should be faster than the E6750... the difference should also remain that way if they are overclocked by the same margin...

i guess they are both great clockers...

If buying new then certainly go for the E8200. You'll be looking at atleast 3.6ghz, probably more with a decent board and your PC2-8000 memory.

i know the e6750 reliably hits 3.2, but can probably go up to 3.6 if cooled well...

the E8200 i'd imagine can at least hit 3.6, but 4 looks to be the norm for Wolfies, though with the '82 it MIGHT be a bit more difficult.

note though that i'm no expert on either chip

You havn't ordered yet? :0

I'd go for the E8200 it's faster clock for clock.

You'll need to get custom cooler though as the stock one that comes with E8000 series is naff or so I've heard.

Yup!

Here's a pic:

Normal intel cooler on the left vs the titchy 'wolfie' cooler on the right! :(

On water i get 4ghz @1:1 with my geil black dragon 6400 ram, 500fsb(good overclocking ram the black dragon, and its 2x2gb)
I havent tried any higher but that rocks stable 24/7.most time if im pottering on pc and not gaming etc ill lower to 3.8ghz

How much voltage are you using for 4ghz pompeyboy? And what's your VID?

I've just picked one of these up for a good price for an upgrade from my E7200. I've not ever clocked a 6mb cache wolfdale under an E8400 but have some experience with E3110s, E8400s, E8500s, and E8600s...

My E6750 has 1.35VID and it's not a great clocker tbh. It runs cool though in my setup, which is nice.

I'd go with the wolfie like everyone else has said, which I think you're doing. Let us know how you get on matey!
