Is CoreTemp not working properly on Wolfdale CPU's?

Reason I ask is that my idle temp reported in CoreTemp 0.96.1 is 45/46, and under Orthos full load it is also 45/46?

CPU reported temp sitting in the Bios is 27c, with a room temp of 23c which seems feasible under water cooling.

Just wondered if this is the same for others with E8XXX CPU's?

I just made a post about this,in coretemp whilst idle my E8400 just sticks at 45c,it only moves when im under load which jumps upto 60c oc`d to 4GHz.

Mine has always worked fine, idle temps higher than my E6750 by 10-15c FSB vs FSB; orthos temps 5-10c more. About 4-5c difference between cores.

Again using 96.1

I have had a few issues with this E8500. Temperatures readings from Bios are way off. Bios's for these chips still need some tweaks I think.

I've tried everest now too, as per the suggestion above, and that just gives an Aux temp reading of 45c too. The CPU diode Temp option which is usually present isn't anymore with the E8400.

0.96.1 reports a Tj. Max of 105c. Is that wrong too?

Core Temp has now shifted up to 48/49c after a couple of hours Orthos at 3.73Ghz. I can't help but feel it should be higher though, even with watercooling.

Tooks the readings are all over the place simple as mate. Was the same story when the G0's will take a few days to rectify I'd of thought. Maybe longer..

Yeah, you're right, I'm sure somebody will come up with a fix or a workaround before too long!

Anyway, mine has been ticking away at 3.73Ghz since this afternoon, about the limit I think given my 800Mhz RAM, but I'm happy with that. Lets hope I haven't toasted it eh?! :)

Lol. Just use Speedfan to get the bios readings at least you know those are accurate enough to get a rough idea.

Give or take 5c with the speedfan reading but its a lot more accurate than coretemp atm which seems to be over by 20c or so.

Yep, Speedfan at the moment for me. Shows 28c Idle, and goes up to about 40c under load. It's a guide and gives me something to go on whilst I fiddle with the overclock etc. Cheers Tom. :)

Getting about 5c more than you on decent air cooling (Tuniq Tower 120) :D
