Electronic Arts have confirmed that the next version of The Sims will be free of Digital Rights Management (DRM).

The firm came in for considerable criticism last year, when the copy protection limited users to three installations of the game Spore.

The Sims division head, Ron Humble, said the game would use traditional serial code copy protection as "this is a good, time-proven solution".

Seems people have been making an impact with voicing their feelings on DRM.

Wonderful news.

Not that I'll ever play the game, but still.. a step in the right direction.
It was only the other week I had to ring Ubisoft to get my activations revoked, which wouldn't have happened if I'd gotten the game illegally!

Not sure if this gets people to buy games though, sim2 was worse than sims 1 imo...

But it's a game which speaks more to the general public though rather than real gamers, so we'll see.

It is a step in the right direction :)

DRM has not stopped piracy, if anything it has made it worse and so they need to do something about it. Although the new DRM proposed by Stardock sounded ok

Good! I hope more people decide to buy it instead of pirate it...

even if they went back to the old days of code wheels or asking for words from the manual they are never going to ba able to totally stop piracy.

Serial codes are no more effective than any other form.

Nothing ever stops piracy, but keys are generally linked to online accounts these days and that at least helps to limit pirates from being able to play multiplayer. I'm guessing you like DRM? Or am I wrong there?

No I hate DRM, it's just funny they're now backtracking saying serial protection works fine...
