Not really, they are using it as they said its in the gamers best interest that they dont offer this to them.

Hows that working in best for you.

Its a consumer option,

It's optional now but once established there's nothing to stop EA from later making it a mandatory part of playing their games and forcing people into buying digitally. I'm sure Sony are looking at the bigger picture not just the launch offer used to lure people in.

Apparently there is more to it as well, the EA deal refers you to Microsoft in the event of issues etc so perhaps Sony weren't willing to carry any potential risk from signing up to the EA deal.

what I don't like about EA, microtransaction heavy games that want you to spend and then spend again constantly are the way the want gaming to go.

Barrier to entry, locking you in to ea's infrastructure, moving the market away from any external retail, where they 100% take control with gets and gives on prices lumped on after a large dose of social engineering.

The real money ea makes these days is in the secondary market.

Granted their not going to toss the box price away in the cash rich western world of have it now, but honestly if their metrics told them they'd make more by doing that, they would.

You only have to look at FIFA World, free in the places of the world first where very few buy the box.
