My brother keeps saying he has heard a rumour that EA is looking into releasing their own console and now that Peter Moore has jumped ship from MS to EA Sports he is convinced this is the route they are taking.

I have told him I read a lot about games on the internet and havent heard anything - so I was wondering if anyone else on here has heard of this rumour?

I saw it on the game central thing on teletext, didnt think much to it, EA would possibly loose out in the end just look at the hits Sony and Microsoft have had lately in there game division. Software is where the money is, think they should stick to that, but you can see some logic in the thinking.

I also heard that rumour, perhaps they have thought about it but I personally doubt they will. Although I wonder how well it would do, they do have a lot of game studios under their belt, EA sports, Battlefield, Half Life - they would definately have a good line up.

as much as i dislike EAs publishing ethos they would have one of the most popular first party lineups for a console (not best, but most popular to Joe Pulblic)

Heck of an investment to secure a market segment tho when they can sell games on all platforms

God could you picture ea with their own console, this is the company afterall that expected people to pay on live to be able to get cheats for the godfather. They'd probably charge you for turning the damn thing on, updates each and everyday for games that break more things than they fix....would be gaming bliss.

I'd be warey. EA are a disaster when it comes to problems and bugs. Not just at creating them but fixing them. They seem to have a tendency to create a whole new set of problems after fixing a few.

It'd certainly be very very interesting. They have got huge experience within the industry.

I would be surprised if EA did - iirc they've never done any hardware before, MS at least had the experience and manufacturing partnerships built up from their years of hardware.

I'm not saying it will never happen, but I honestly cannot see it happening in the near future as it would be a very expensive gamble for EA in several areas they've not had experience in.

Looking at their financial performance they're on a par with Nintendo almost so they may have the financial might to enter the market, even if it was the hand held market or something.

No experience of hardware though as far as I'm aware.

Yeah at releasing games before theyre done, half assing it with patches, working employees half to death by sticking them into "crunch" hours from practically the beginning of development.

That is the very recent EA, they have a very long record of producing brilliant games.

Remember kids, it's cool to hate EA.

In the late 80's upto the mid 90's they had good games and were a good company, after that when the company went public it was then ran by a pack of stiffs who didn't care much about game quality, just revenues.

i think it's a good move ,all the chav's will buy it and play the endless amount of crappy fifa games and crappy need for speed games.

in fact they can have the games in built ,and every year update via online,

Sounds like Microsoft to me and look where they are :p

Microsoft have a pretty good games division though. They also seem to focus more on quality rather than how fast they can get a game out to market. With ea its not uncommon to see patches even before a games released.

Maybe they'd learn from having their own platform.

Is there room in the market for them?.......I'd seriously doubt it

A cheap but non-gimmicky system would fit in nicely. They could also have exclusivity on LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOADS of games as they own the ip to a lot of stuff.
