EA Wins "Worst Company In America" Award

It's EA, of course they don't care what their customers say, as long as they continue to buy FIFA 2056, Madden OAP 12, and DLC packs 3-300.

EA are about the only company I know who seem more than happy to not be able to get payment from long term customers - it's the only possible explanation for the fact their billing system for MMORPG's doesn't work reliably (and indeed when they changed everyone over to it, didn't include any instructions on how to get your old accounts linked to the new system).

In some ways I really wish EA would go bust, or at least make a couple of massive losses, as that might get the accountants and PR people who seem to be running it, to pay attention to what the customers want - games that work when bought (not require massive patches, or DLC to play through), and a system where when they do sell you something, they have an accounts system that works.

Oh and customer service would be nice...

EA ar a company that is meant to make products that are fun for the customers.
They don't even manage that a lot of the time due to the problems associated with that, and people are far more likely to have a problem with a games publisher that cannot get solved easily, than they are with a banking establishment, which at least has regulators to try and maintain standards.

I don't know if they really deserve the "worst company in America" award, but they certainly fall well below what you'd expect of a company that sells what is meant to be an enjoyable product.

/is a slightly bitter UO player who is fed up of EA making changes without any documentation to even the basics, like how to pay the subscription fee in the new accounts system (or indeed, how to log into the new accounts system).

Has a Kevin Keegan moment, 'I would love it, love it if they went bust' I'd be more then happy for them to take Ubisoft and Activision with them.

Lost so much love for Blizzard when they teamed up with Activision :(

I guess that gameinformer won't be getting to review any EA games any time soon. Apparently EA are buying out another major studio soon so I'm sure more poo is going to be flying their way soon.

It's kinda depressing how many people have stories like this though. Hell, the Elder Scrolls games are inevitably buggy as hell, same goes for the X space sims, but neither of the companies behind those have reputations as bad as EA. Like you said it's not just an issue of game quality, it's support and basic organisation.

“We’re sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco and weapons companies are all relieved they weren’t on the list this year," EA said in a statement sent to Game Informer. "We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.”

Yet they are happy to make tens of millions of dollars selling games based on these evil weapons companies products.

:/

so 250k people vote them the worst in America, yet as the current top 10 shows they still buy, 6 of the current top 10 are EA.

It really is true - Yank = Plank :)

Here’s the All Formats Top 10 for the week ending March 31st:

1. FIFA Street (EA)
2. Mass Effect 3 (EA)
3. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 (EA)
4. Resident Evil: Operation Rac**** City (Capcom)
5. FIFA 12 (EA)
6. Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations (Namco Bandai)
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision)
8. Battlefield 3 (EA)
9. Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games (Sega)
10. SSX (EA)

If it were a games publisher poll sure. EA aren't even close in the general market though. I would put the likes of Goldman Sachs and BoA in the top 10, Walmart deserves to be up there, Monsanto, and pretty much every military contractor of note.

I feel the need to point out as I have had pointed out to me that EA are a publisher and NOT a developer.

BF3 was made by DICE, Mass Effect was made by Bioware. It is them who are responsible for throwing this latest iteration of **** down our throats.

EA will force developer time lines to the CEO, but with a title like BF3 and Mass Effect you can bet they are very flexible.

The reason EA is the biggest game publisher is because they persistently publish the biggest titles.

The only game that EA really make are the sports games and although they are iterations of the previous generations I don't see people complaining about them that much. FIFA has overtake PES as the fan favourite in recent years, so they are obviously doing something right.

In terms of how the company works internally there are far worse places.

Sadly I think if they made a few massive losses they wouldn't re-evaluate what they are doing and how they could improve. They would just cut even more potential titles that aren't 'sure things' (ie, First/Third Person Shooters or annual sports titles) and cut more corners in development to minimise spending.

Wow, entitled angry internet nerds tip a internet poll.

Especially when there's big banks on the list, and companies that have an actual affect on people's lives.

EA may be a cancer to gaming and small games companies, but customer services has worked for me 100% of the time I've used it.

I got a full refund, not a store credit, for Battlefield 3 after being unable to play it. Thats a lot more than I can say for Steam.

EA owns most of the studios that it publishes, most even have "EA" in the title, for example, the official name for DICE is "EA Digital Illusions CE".

BF3 was made by DICE, but paid for by EA, and is owned by EA, not DICE, so whilst some studios do get flexibility, EA are still pulling all the strings and are ultimately to blame.
