Any one have these - or similar?

Seem quite pricey - but the missus moans about hearing people die while watching Sex and the City - so my Z5500 are not being used to their potential, and I could be moving into a flat soon so need to consider noise reduction...

I want 5.1 or higher and mic for XBL Chats - what are peoples thoughts?

Thanks,

Look good - but even more expensive then the X41's

Do you use one of these yourself?

yep I have the A40's with the mixamp. They took a little getting used to as I had moved from TV speakers to the headset. Basically at first your ears are overwhelmed. But then you get very used to them especially good for pinpointing footsteps and shots fired on MW2, they are a godsend on FFA games. I'm often getting the "how the hell did you know I was there" statements on that gametype. I just tell them they were breathing too hard lol.

The surround works very well on them you can clearly tell where the sound is coming from.

I got some X41's not long after BF2 came out. The amount extra your hear is amazing. As said it is a bit overwhelming to begin with but I'm really pleased with them. Takes 2 AAA batteries and I'm getting about 20 hours roughly out of a set. I just hooked up the optical lead to my Xbox 360.

I've not used the mic yet (as the open parties I've been in no 1 chatted :/ ).

Only downside I've found so far is if someone uses my media PC downstairs I get clicking and interference. My media PC uses 5ghz wireless which I think is the same freq as the X41's.

Good to hear the X41 are good as well - just torn between the two - but the benefits of wireless and less cost have me leaning towards the X41's at the moment...

My brother's got the X41's (tried to flog them to me!!) and an A40 Mixamp + Sennheiser headset..

The X41's are OK, but
1. If you use 'chat' they aren't that wireless.. like all these things you need a lead from the controller to the headset
2. For music, they aren't briliiant, they are OK, but for the money, a bit meh!!
3. Individual chat/game volume controls are a bit fiddly at times.

The A40 is wired, but you can just buy the Mixamp on it's own for £99, leaving you free to choose whatever headset (or Headphones/mic) you want, so for £150 you can get a good setup.
Also, the A40 has a nice 'Chat/Game' balance control, it's so easy to just keep changing game/chat audio this way, especially useful if like me you turn the game volum down whilst in the lobby, then turn it back up when in the game itself..

The X41's are OK though, briliiant for games, it's just the fact they are musically not very special for the money that makes them a bit 'dedicated' to just gaming IMO.

I have a pair and they are an absolute must buy from me! I was toying with the Astro, but in the end the wireless capability of the X41's swung it for me, and I haven't looked back since. I get no interference, the audio quality is top-notch, voice chat through them is superb, especially since you have a dedicated channel for it so you can independantly adjust the volume for both game and chat, and the mic and cable for voice are fully removable so if you're playing on your own you just unplug them both and use them as normal headphones. Add to that the fact that I also have them wired through my DVD player for watching my DVD's, they are an awesome bit of kit to have when you need to hear things but don't need everyone else to. I'd definitely get yourself the X41's McDaniel.

I don't quite understand how you can slate them for listening to music, when they have been clearly designed for gaming and nothing more. I would never expect them to be the most crystal clear headphones for listening to music, but for gaming they do their job absolutely brilliantly. I'm not sure what you mean by the chat controls being fiddly. I don't have any trouble with them at all. I did end up reversing the cable that connects to the controller though, so if that's what you mean then I get it. Just switch it the other way so it hangs differently and you're sorted. That leaves the controls close to my chest, rather than in a place that the cable can easily be yanked out from.

Thanks for the responses guys - not a bit music fan so that does not phase me, mostly for gaming and maybe the odd DVD - I see there is a wire from Headset to Controller but that's ok - I think ill pop into town and see if I can get me some X41's then.

Much Love!

I am currently going down the Mixamp route, just havent got the mix amp yet! I am using a pair of AD700's which i find brilliant musically, and I will be making an attachable mic for it. The wires don't really bother me as I am 4 ft max from my tv!

Simple really..

For £150 having it just dedicated to 'gaming' sets the price/use/performance to a certain level
If I spent £99 on a mixamp, I have the option of pairing it up with a set of say Sennheiser HD595's £99, and a desk/strap mic/whatever mic I want to
I can then use the 595's for music and other duties to part offset the justification for them..

Not sure why the amazement that I would prefer to spend £200 on something that has more flexibility and provide a top notch set of headphones that can be used for my MP3 player etc..

And as for the fiddly chat control, it's not that they don't work, it's that they are in different locations, I've been using this system on my X1's for ages.. however when I tried my brothers Mixamp, I liked the ease of just having 1 controlf or 'balance' between game/voice and it's in 1 place..

No biggy, I like the X41's, my brother keept trying to sell me his, however having used his Mixamp/PC350 combo (cost him £200) the sound quality is at the next level, and listening to music on the 360 (which I do in quite a few games where I like my own music (off USB)), apart from the cables, it's what I now want..

Got the X41's earlier - hooked them all up - playing some Halo: Reach soon so will see how I get on!

i know this thread is 2 months old now, but how you getting on with the x41's? I had the px21's for a week before the right ear stopped working. I've had some replacements ordered but i'm tempted to pay another £60 for the x41.s

+1 until my headset started to fail in the both ear cups under heavy bass, sent them off to lime earlier this week hoping for a quick return missing them quite a bit!

where did you get the mixamp from? struggling to find a UK supplier (although they will probably be a competitor )

am tempted to go for the x41's at £125, but if the mixamp and alternate headset is 'only' another £50, then I'd be tempted

EDIT, just been to the place you mentioned in your post :-/ (I'm blind today).....£195 for the A40 amp/headset combo.....really worth it over the x41's?
