Early 8600 Benchies

DX10 was only officially release less than 2 months ago with the introduction of Vista and it does take time to produce a game.

You keep harping on about "the 8 series was a new era of technology, innovation and epenis" and yea if you want the epenis factor then go for the 8800 series, why else do you think all the top end hardware is associated with that factor? The 8600 is a mainstream card based on the 8 series architecture aimed at the mass market and not the average hardware enthusiast with the price tag to go along with it.

If the 8600 performs on par with the 7900/1900 series with early release drivers, has DX10 support (its a bonus even if you dont want it?), has image quality like the 8800 series and in the same price range, I know which card I would be buying.

It does sound like you have a bone to pick with nVidia but thats none of my concern, this is my personal opinion of the card and I hope this wont turn the thread into an ATI vs nVidia flamefest.

The 8600GTS beats the 7900 in the benchmarks.

8800GTS gets ~5500 in '06.

7900GT gets ~ 5400 (according to the same site).

I really can't see it beating the 7900GTX really. :)

My 8800GTS 320mb got 8.5k st stock  were are you getting the 5.5k from ??

Well it was stated that it would take over the performance market for the 7900 series and is has technically succeeded. But they are still early benchmarks. Each company brand will be better than the other and BFG will have there own OC range of 8600. The drivers will need to come out too, which should increase performance.

Ah, ok mate sorry i was just a little  lol :p

LOL, you have to admit, for the past few months, whenever anyone's typed 8x00GTS it's normally been an 8 in that space and not a 6! :D

Looks nice performance for the price, i mean come on they're 100 quid (thats what 200 dollars it right), this is a good alternative for people who want a low power good performing card that is for a low price, its bye bye 1950pro's imo for pci-e.

Will push down pricing on 1900xt's hopefully, and all older gen nvidia cards.

Single slot too, for all those that are put off by dualslot cards.

$200 != £100.

It should do, but it never quite works out like that.

I'd expect these to be £130-£170, depending on model.

Found some more benchmarks on the 8600GTS. Also a picture of the BFG version. Looks legit enough to me: BFG 8600GTS

Those where on a single core processor. Still mighty impressive.

Now it became "mid range card" ? I thought the 8 series was a new era of technology, innovation and epenix?

Erm, the 8600's have always been planned as mid-range cards  Just like the 7600 and 6600 before it.

Edit: Oh yeah, NVidia were planning on making it available at about £125 - £140 for the GTS! It's supposed to be about £80 - £110 for the GT. And less than one month until release so expect benchies and stats to be pouring in very soon people.

Also, how many of these cards must get stolen, i mean, it looks like a member of the general public testing them with the photos they take. If it was in some sort of NV studio then well, i'd believe it, but well, i believe these anyway. And that GTS looks mighty fine against some of the other high end cards, both from ATi and nVidia.

I think these are prettyy good.
Cheap, short, slim, probably cool running, DX 10 ready and faster than a 7900 GT...
That is very impressive - there is a reason why they are cheap - if they were going to be really fast they would not be called "mid range"
they would call them "high end"

The 7900 GT was a very fast card - faster than a 7800 GTX i believe, and so if the 8600 GTS is faster for considerably less money than the 7900 GT then it is clearly no slouch and a good deal in my book.
Seeing as I am confined to a single slot card (CURSE YOU DELL!!!! ) I shall be getting one of these methinks....

Them results are fake, look at the 06 results. Totally different marks on the front window, eg 5488 marks and 2070 HDR marks, yet the window underneath says HDR N.A, and a totally diffwerent overall score

And if they are real its worse than my 7900GTO

Would it really be worth buying a 8600GTS for £125-140 when you can buy a 8800 for £200?

Erm, 8600GTS. I'd rather save myself £60 for something that will do me absolutely fine. I mean, my 7600GT does enough for me, just. But an 8600GTS would really finish it off. Then this rig is complete. That's until i can afford a C2D, or when they're release, an AMD "Barcelona" CPU.

You do have to remember that the 8600GTS is replacing the 7900's, so it's also in competition with the X1900, but it has DX10 as well, and probably a faster clock speed. The only thing i hate is that NV are still using GDDR3. They should be on GDDR4 by now. Imagine it, a mid range card with 1.8Ghz stock memory clock speed. :D
